A friend thinned his irises and gave us a bag of them. They've been out of the ground for a week and a half. Will they still grow if I get them in the ground?

Yes, they will grow just plant them shallow they need very little soil on top of them. My MIL dug up some iris and threw them in the woods where they grew without planting.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

Welcome to ATP! Welcome!

Yes to everything Betty said. Iris rhizomes are incredibly hardy. Plant so the 'bulbs' are just under the surface of the soil; the top should be less than an inch under ground. I know that sounds weird but that's the way they like it.
