Glad you got some inspiration from the picture Clint. That's what these forums are all about! Hurray! I'm guessing that picture was taken in early June of last year. That's the time of year when the semps are most colorful.

I just started cleaning out that bed last night. It always looks terrible at first but bounces back pretty quickly. If we ever get some rain that should really help.

The first time I saw that photo I just keep going back and clicking on it just so I could sit here and stare at it. Every time I would see something different. I love that photo. That is a serious succulent bed. Lovey dubby

See the trellis on the left side? That is a clematis!! I know that's really weird, but the clematis was there before I made it into a semp bed and it does really good there so I didn't want to move it. Strange combination, for sure! Rolling my eyes.

I was so into looking at the semps I didn't even notice the clematis. Do you have a picture of it in bloom? Which one is it?

It's Niobe, a dark red. Probably have a picture but I'll have to hunt it up.

I love Niobe, such a pretty flower.

I am making a rose garden. I was thinking about instead of edging it with rocks, etc. I might edge it with a border made from Semperviums in patterns. I would have to prepare the soil and try not to water them too much, but it would be very interesting.

I bet that will look wonderful! It might be a challenge to keep the grass out of the semps unless you had some kind of a barrier between them. If my clematis can flourish in the same conditions as my semps, I'm sure roses could too.

That is going to be a pretty sight Clint. I have pictures in my mind about how beautiful it will be. Thumbs up Patterns, this is going to be a big project.
Now the rose thing just brought another thought to me. I have hardy geraniums growing around some of my roses. I have several very low growing varieties (geraniums) that would work in a semp bed. Or hardy cyclamen. Believe it our not they like it dry in summer and fall. Wow another idea coming from such creative people. Thank you.

Maybe I could put some sort of tile between the Semperviums and the grass. I am also going to use Nepeta "Walker's Low" between my roses. I love it. Someone in the Clematis Cubit suggested a Clematis underneath the roses too.

Tiles would probably work well. I never thought of putting Nepeta between the roses but I bet that would look pretty. I know its popular to grow clems and roses together and it's a beautiful combination. I'd love to see some pictures of your gardens!

I have seen clems growing up through roses, it is beautiful. Just have to choose varieties that are not really big. Another pretty picture.

Here is a picture of Niobe, but it only shows the clem, not the semp garden.

Oh that is lovely, I can picture seeing it with the different colors of the semps and it is such beautiful use of color. I would never have thought of that.

Big Grin That would definitely be my experience when something turns out nice. Certainly not pre-planning for me. My goal for this growing season is to create a new planting area with fore thought of design and colors. Wish me luck, this will be a first. Blinking

I have it in my mind to take out a 10' x 2½' bed and make it all semps and the low growing sedum. Will have to think ahead on colors for interest. Have lots of rocks to incorporate. Sure wish the rain would stop.

I have all the ones from the co-op coming when I get back from DC in May. That would be a great place for them. Big Grin The visions in my head are dancing all around. Rolling my eyes.
