Could anyone tell me the name for this guy? It's flowers are the same size as a Stella d'Oro but the flower stalk is a bit taller, maybe an inch to two inches. Similar length leaves to Stellas.

If it is a first year bloom, (meaning the plant is not mature) the bloom size, ect will not be a reliable way to ID as they can change ALOT as the clump matures. The bloom may be richer color, larger and have thicker substance, the leaves will get much larger. I just say this because it looks in the photo like the plant is just getting started and not mature.

Great eye Frillylily!! Just planted last summer from a local nursery. I have always wanted red flowers and daylilies are just great. Not sure if it is a rebloomer. If you guys don't mind i'll post again when it blooms this year to see what you all think. Thank you so much for the help!!!

I didn't know there were red versions of Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Stella de Oro') either.

I did not no there was a red Stella either. I have a red noid I can't ID too. It will be three this year.

Last fall--I dug up all 4 clumps of my Stellas and gave them away. Had them for years!!
GONE! ---so wanted something different.
I was in the process of digging up and refreshing, (with organic manure soil), the corner
of the YUK bed. I have names of all my beds= as I have a small, development garden.

("YUK Bed" refers to my bed that is full of maple roots--and i cannot dig into it without a huge effort.
The maple is 4' (the closest point) to my 65+ yr. old Silver maple.
I LOVE the shade it provides in the hot summers----but I curse the roots that are everywhere!!!! grrrrr.grrrr...

SO! Having dug up all my Stellas--I bought (On clearance) at the Home Depot some pots of new,
pink D-Lilies and planted them in this same bed where the Stellas were.
Waiting to see what they will look like. It will be different. I also planted new perennials in the back of this bed.
Lots of work--but I hope it was worth it once they all loom.

I do not, generally, change the plants that have been growing in my beds. Leave well enough alone...
I am just happy they are surviving there, coming back each year-- and blooming.

BUT--now and then--I want something different. Last year, I also planted a lot of new perennials--
and am anticipating their survival and blooming.
I work at a HD--and when end-of-seson clearances come up--I tend to pick up some new plants.
AND--just FYI----HD DOES NOT have an employee discount! Never had it--never will!

Hope spring actually comes and settles down in this area.

There may be red daylilies that are similar in flower size, plant size, and flower shape to 'Stella de Oro' and maybe even related, but I wouldn't categorize them as red versions of Stella. "Stella de Oro' is registered as gold so can only be gold and still be 'Stella de Oro'. Interestingly we commonly abbreviate 'Stella de Oro' to 'Stella' but there actually is a daylily registered only as 'Stella', dates back to 1939.

Incidentally, Ruby Stella is not an actual cultivar name, according to the US patent office, it's real cultivar name is 'Berrub' but it is sold under the trade name Ruby Stella.

I don't want to be a pessimist but there are now over 82,000 different daylilies registered and identifying one from a picture is likely to be difficult if not impossible unless there is something very distinctive about it.

yes but only a handful of red dl are currently being sold at local nurseries. There are thousands and thousands of dl that no one even has anymore and are still registered.

Yes. I posted in the database forum to that effect yesterday. The trade name should also be in a different font so I didn't try to see if I could edit it. Maybe I should also comment on the plant's database page......I went back and found I could submit a proposal change for making Ruby Stella the trade name and 'Berrub' the cultivar name so I have done so. Still learning how the database works here.

Thank Sue, for proposing the change. That would be the correct way to have it. This site has amazing flexibility when it come s to correction. The admins/mods have to approve right or wrong. You can also look at the entries history and it will show who submitted it and all changes to it after that. Two+ years in for me and still learning things about the sights abilities. I had a look at the patent abstract for this DL. And it's very interesting. Too bad they don't know the parentage.

Pardon Me has similar color, eyezone, and lightly ruffled appearance. I think Debbie called it right.
