I started a new flower/daylily bed last fall and what I did to plan my layout was to create a table in word with each column being equal to an approved space for a daylily plant and then decided on the number of rows I could accommodate. Then I did a checkerboard pattern, knowing that every other space was going to be open space for the plants to spread. Once I had my layout figured out, I made a table with the heights of the scapes and when they bloomed. From there, I put the tallest in the back and worked forward, being sure to spread out the times of flowering so that there will be constant color throughout the bed.

I then actually pasted a picture of each plant into the box so that I have a working plan of my garden, should I lose tags or markers.

It worked out really well and with the exception of 1 plant, they all fit into the space I had created and planned for.

Hope this helps with your planning.

Thank you taylordaylily,

I don't know if you want Casper, he is a cutiepie but he loves to eat a lot, he ate the girl's food all the time, he's not shy at all... He only less than 2 yrs old but pretty hefty... He loves to look at the birds and try to chase butterfly, did not do anything to the squirrels that tried to came to my backyard...

I was just kidding, I don't really want Casper. He is a cutie! But, I have enough critters already. We have a dog and a rabbit and that's all for this house. I do have local barn cats that hang out in my yard but they are not my cats.
Your garden looks nice and ready to welcome your daylilies. Thumbs up Hope you'll share pictures once you have everything planted.

Thank you Barbalee and Hemlady ! I'm still waiting for them to arrive...hopefully soon so I can take other picture... in the meantime I have to dig more to get rid almost solid limestone underneath before I add all the good stuff....
We had pretty bad storm with hails last night in the DFW Metroplex, my hubby checked the roof before leaving to work this morning and it looks like we're OK, I will check my flower beds later, just a quick glance I saw few of roses branches with BUDS were brokens...

Have a blessed day everyone...

So far our loss are minimal, lots of newly planted Rose buds gone, Irises, Daffodils (little bit that left), Roses, Clematis (2 out of 3 newly planted gone) lost some branches, I can say that more than 10% of my flower beds were wrecked..but no roof/window or anything else damaged Thank GOD for protecting us....very few in our neighborhood got affected, but a couple of neighborhood away are not so lucky, many have their roof damaged...

Hey, JavaMom...speaking of coffee, I just learned that coffee grounds sprinkled around daylilies before and during blooming is really good for them!
