I just committed to pots on wheels about 2 years ago. I wonder why it took me so long. I've spent about $16 - $25 for each platform. I find you need to be aware that some will rust and you need to use a little oil or Rust-o-leum to keep them moving.

I have found this really useful too. Just can't commit to the expense for all my pots, but it helps hugely for the big ones!

I have a couple metal ones, but think it is time to get DH busy building platforms with wheels. I see sets of wheels at the thrift stores at times and we always seem to have some lumber around. Sure would be easier on the back.

GREAT tip! My wheelbarrow is almost always with me when I work in the garden to hold all my "stuff" but it's definitely used for transports as well.

Great tip! I have many plants on wheeled trays/caddies. Mine were all purchased at Wal-Mart and it does get expensive when you have too many plants! I've also found that those plastic wheels don't hold up for long and I've considered buying wood and casters from Home Depot and making my own rolling plant holders ... one of these days.

I have one big pot in the screenroom that's on wheels. Got it years ago at Sams Club. Would love to have more, just not sure how well they would roll through sandy dirt loaded with roots which is my yard. Would definately mack a difference on the back and lifting!

I started doing this a few years ago when I decided to put a tomato plant up on the deck (where it would get enough sun). I was so worried about that plant and it was a stormy Spring/Summer....sigh...i got real tired of going out in the dark in the middle of a storm and trying to lug my plant to the side of the house. The wheels made it much simpler!

Yep, wheels make it sooo much easier when you have large, heavy plants!

Have all of the big pots in the sunroom on wheels. Some go outside in the smmer which DH moves with a hand truck. Wheels wouldn't work here because the yard is full of rocks, etc.

I'll tell you the rest of it --

We had rented our home for five years before we retired and our first renter had started building some rock walls at the back of the property. When we finally arrived, I decided to finish his work. I rolled rocks down the hill behind us, and also each time we planted a shrub or plant, we wound up with lots of rocks and not much dirt. There was also a drainage pipe that ran underneath our driveway and emptied into the front yard. The water made its way through the rest of the yard, taking the path of least resistance and I paved the "creek" with rocks also. One of our neighbors gave me the name of Rocklady, so now you know the whole story!

Thanks so much Renee. Last winter was pretty hard on the plants and shrubs, so I'm rethinking some of the areas, but as you know, a garden is never finished!

I have some of those too.
Sometimes I wait for rain ,frost or snow to move large containers.
They slide more easily on water or ice.
