Have had this awhile but don't know it's name. I see several that are similar but I can't really tell. Thought I'd try to see what came up in the iris forum. It's about ten inches tall with the bloom. I tip my hat to you. I added the second photo of todays bloom and it is much less yellow than the first.
Here is a third photo day three. If you compare it to the photo by Brock Heilman in the AIS iris encyclopedia........

I'm trying to love it. Sad A name might help. Love the small size for the front. I'll be going to our local sale in two weeks hoping to find some tiny treasures.

Check 'Red Heart' in the iris encyclopedia. Go to irises.org which is the AIS site. Click on iris encyclopedia down on the left side Next Standard Dwarf bearded, & then alphabetical.

I looked at those in the ATP db and they all had a line down the center of the falls. It was one of three I looked at as possibles. I'll check out irises.org. Thanks Lucy. I tip my hat to you. Hmmm wasn't red heart with the line down the center of the fall. I looked at Flower Child, Urban Star, 'Ritz' and 'Pippi Longstockings' and thats the one with a line.....down the back of her stockings? Funny.

If yu can find it from someone who sells historics get one & plant next to yours. the type of testing. I found one at a sale at Pickle Hill Garden in MI. that is an historic collection & they were selling increase to raise money. I will have to see it when it blooms. I will look for the line.

I agree, it's a pretty little thing. I have just ordered my first ever SDBs - Paul Black's 'Repeat the Blues', and also 'Cat's Eye', which I kept seeing on ATP threads. I hope I'll love them and get into ordering more!

Is your iris lighter in person? In your picture it has a yellow tinge to the standards and the rim on the falls, whereas Red Heart is white.

Mika - you will find that Cat's Eye is a very very good grower!

yes, the best way is to try & find another to grow with it. I suggested Red Heart as a possibility.

Leslieray, Lucy is right and her suggestion was a good one. Now before you can actually call your little guy Red Heart you need to acquire a test plant from another grower/vendor, grow then side-by-side and compare them in size, time of bloom and color. If you do not have the time or space you can ask another trusted iris grower that has Red Heart to accept a rhizome from you to do the test. Then you can say you have successfully Identified your little iris. Good luck.

That's right Richard. And if we hang in there long enough, sometimes we get lucky and find out what those names are!!

Leslieray -- the lacy yellow is lovely!
