Lynn has directed me here for guidance on how to plant my rock wall. I ordered LOTS of heuffs and semps from mamajack's Mountcrest co-op. Now I need advice on how to plant them.
Do I plant as plugs or grow them on in pots?
Do I put dirt in around the plants? If so, my native clay, bagged garden soil, potting mix?
How often would I wet the walls down in the beginning?
How far apart?
I ordered 5 of each type. Is it better to mass them by cultivar or random plant?
This is a closeup of one of the walls:

Diane, sorry it took me so long to answer, I'm away from home until this coming week.
Looking at the pictures I would pack your native soil amended with chicken grit and fir bark in the crevasses and then plant. I would plant them as plugs, they will take off much quicker that going through another transplant. The plugs also are smaller and easier to fit into the cracks. That way they will have soil behind them to send roots into. It is up to you on how fast you want the holes to fill in as to how many you plant in each crevase. You can plant them in any pattern that you find appealing. I like to plant just one cultivar in a spot, maybe another close by, mixing color, size and textures as I go along the wall. Let the wall dry out between waterings. You have such a wonderful variety from the co-op to make an amazing wall tapestry with. I just can't wait to see your photos after planting. Don't worry if it doesn't look filled out right away, won't be long before it looks like it's been there for many years. : )

I prefer massing each cultivar as well. Do the heuff and semps have different growth patterns? Can I intermix them?
You know, i'm going to have to buy lots more. I have more walls to fill...

You can intermix them, but they do have different ways of growing. The semps send out chicks, the heuffs produce from the stem in tight rosettes. The heuffs have to be split at the stems, each rosette having some of the roots.
When I get home I will do an article on heuffs, I just realized there isn't much info here for them.
In this case more info is better. Thumbs up
Are you going to use some of the low growing sedum in the wall also? They are beautiful used that way.

I was going to use the sedum in walkways and on the top of some of the walls.

I don't remember which sedums you got Diane? I might have some extras around the gardens that I can send you to use in the wall if you like. Let me know. I am still in DC. My flight was canceled due to mechanical failure. Glad I wasn't in the plane when it decided to have that. Whistling

With all the last minute restructuring, I didn't get what I ordered for sedum, so I hope the substitutes will work:
coriscum
japonicum senanese
moranense
pachyclados
sexangulare

All of those should work beautifully. Which ones did you want, but didn't get?

I ordered album, but there was a big shortage on that one. I'll order more next time.
They have arrived! I unpacked them and put them in our breezeway until I can plant this weekend. I had a thought though. There's an Austram wreath form with coco liner that I got last year. If I put potting mix in that, could I plant it with semps and heuffs? Is one or the other preferable?

Diane, I am suppose to get 5 album when mine come. I can send one of them to you if you like? I'm surprised they didn't swap one of mine for you when doing all the changing.
What a great idea using a wreath. All of the above works well. It gives the wreath more eye appeal when there is diversity in color, texture and form. Boy I really can't wait to see a picture of that. Thumbs up

I just order the album next time, but thank you. I've got so many different ones to plant! At least I don't have to wonder what I'm doing on Saturday.

Thumbs up You are going to be very busy on Sat. Thumbs up
Will be watching for pictures of the finished wall. By next year it will be truly amazing.
Now that I am back home as of last night, I will catch up on my yard work and then start looking at my creek wall to see where I might plant some sedum. I really am grateful to you for giving me that idea. Thumbs up
Check out some of the new sites in our LINK in the right side info box. Great link for container ideas.

I think I'll be in traction after planting this weekend. Moving the stone might be too much. I had a thought for future planting. Can I put these around the pond, or is it too damp?

Some of the sedum would like it as long as it isn't boggy. The semps like things pretty dry, if there are places around the pond that are wet it might work. Sure worth a try. The pond is wonderful, does it have fish? Oh, and look at the waterfall. And what a cute little garden house/shed? Wow, that is beautiful.

Diane, your home and gardens are just fabulous. You should have a journal or something for us to see it all. I got so used to DG's journels, I miss them. Is there something like that on Cubits?

Here is a link to our database named Your succulent gardens. We are not limiting it to just succulents. You can put photos of your gardens, containers, etc. Each person has their own entry. Try it out.

Debbie thanks for bringing that up. Diane that would be a great place for you to enter all of your great photos. That way we won't have to search through threads to find them. Thumbs up What do you think?
You can add as many pictures with comments as you like. When the page fills up you will find a place at the bottom right side of page that you can click 'View them all'.
Have fun. Thumbs up
