they are opening the 9-11 memtorial to the familys today... the publc wll be allowed in.. later n the week..
here the memoral is two large fountains.. about an acre each.. these sit in the footprint where the twin towers sat.. around the edges of these gigantic holes.. now covered in black graniite the water flows down into the holes... above and around the fountains are a forest of 400 trees.. in containers... now about 15' tall/ but they could grow to some 60 ' in the containers... I don't guess they wll be repotting them.. or potting them on.. I don't think they wll be moved and planted n the ground.. as there's a bunch of things underground.. and lttle of it is soil..
these containers of these mostly swamp oaks.. are irrigated.. and watered indivigually.. ths watering is controled for each tree .. by computer chips n the soil.. and will water them when they are dry.. with each tree controling this watering for themselves.. to themselves..
here's a link to these containers/fountains..
http://www.boston.com/travel/g...

we'lll be watching from my rooftop.. as I was 10 years ago..when I saw them disolve into the ground..

Gordon I moved a copy of the 9-11 Memorial Containers here into your first post, so it will show as a thumbnail for this thread. Great photo of the structure of the containers. : )

Oh Gordon , I had no idea that you were that close to ground zero. I've been watching the memorial all day. The families looked grateful to be able to see their loved ones names in the granite around the fountains. And to hear their lost loved ones names read aloud. I'm so very grateful that we have all never forgotten them. So many of the family members were able to place a flower in their loved ones names and do a sketch over the engraving of their names, onto paper to bring home with them. It has been as sad for me today as it was when I sat by the TV watching it all unfold 10 years ago. I can't imagine how you felt being right there. I've never seen the freedom lights on. Thank you so much for the photos. For me those photos bring a sense of peace to what was horror.

And your roof top balcony is fabulous.

Gordon I am so sorry I just found this new thread. I also did not know you lived so close to all that happened 10 years ago. It must have been a very difficult and emotional time for you.
I was so touched by the two columns of light.

Gordon, Thank you for sharing your comments and wonderful photograph's. Your first photo with the American Flag just visible is amazing! My heart goes out to everyone who lost loved ones in those tragic events in N.Y., Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. I know how unbelievable it seemed and how difficult it was watching the unfolding of those events on television ten years ago, I cannot imagine what your feelings must have been watching it in person from your rooftop that day. Thank You to all the brave men and women of the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement and Firefighters etc.,who put their lives in jeopardy every day to protect us.

Debbie... Lynn...Sharon... Lin Thanks for being moved... It certainly was a day of upset.. the battle was being played out here.. that day... I always thought the towers would fall... I had a painting of it made when it went up .. of the tower laying on it's side.. when the towers fell.. I turned the panting so it now sits upright.. I wish I stll had the photos of it's construction.. taken from the payload of rockets I'd set of in an adjacent vacant lot .. and photographed when the rocket reached the top of it's flght .. we go way back with the Towers
here's a photo of the memorial... you can get an idea of it's strength and beauty.. the names... and the shine..

Like the rest of us, your mind will never be clear of the images of that day, Gordon, but to have been as close as you were to it is beyond my understanding. I know it must have been so devastating.

Thanks for sharing the memorial and the amazing tree and water system.
