Just guessing.
My first guess was Elderberry but looking at the darker colored older foliage (I am assuming it is all one plant) could it be some kind of Euonymous?

It reminds me of Euonymous too but I'm not sure which one. Possibly

I don't think there are an euonymus with compound leaves, so can't be that. I lean to Sambucus sp. (elderberry), also, but not familiar with SC flora. Not an aralia. Perhaps something in the Apiaceae family.

Good eye Leftwood/Rick!

Judy, Check out American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) which does grow in S.C. as well as a lot of other areas in the U.S. It sure looks like Sambucus is more of a match!

Quite a few good photos for comparison on this page: http://www.rnr.lsu.edu/plantid...

And, another photo for comparison of stem/stalk and leaves here:

Oh my I think it's elderberry! I've always wanted one. In fact I think I tried to wintersow and failed. So I thought. Probably tossed seeds off deck and they landed there. Yay. Wonder if I can put it in large container for deck....

Which species of elderberry did you plant, Judy? Looking at pics they don't all have the same leaf margin serrations.
