Or you could build yourself a still. I built one in high school for the biology department (distilled water!) so it couldn't be that hard. And when you got tired of making distilled water, I can think of quite a few new uses. Smiling

Watch for holes in those flowers. I Have paper wasps here, and while they may be pollinating , they are also chewing to build nests with.

That's an idea Daisy, I'm afraid the local law enforcement might frown on that. I'm surprised they haven't stopped by the house and asked to see what I'm growing in my two greenhouses in the back yard.

My daughter grows her orchids in her living room with T-5 lights and a humidifier on a double faced fireplace that is very visible out the front windows. She has had a couple neighbors mention to her that if she is growing 'pot' indoors, she should conceal it better. She now closes her curtains early in the evening.

The idea that one might grow Orchids under those bright lights is probably the last thing which comes to People's mind!! Smiling

Regarding pollination by one of those Wasps or Bees - in nature Phals are surely pollinated by specific Euglossine Bees, not sure if the insect you/Chris saw is the right fit to carry out pollination. But they would certainly not be responsible for producing basal keikis. Perhaps small injuries to the main stem might, if I am guessing.

Here is a really nice article regarding Phals in nature!! Lots of good information here!!

I realize that the wasp, if indeed it's a pollinator, would not be responsible for basal keikis Ursula. Since I don't seem to be able to start another thread in this forum asking about the wasp as a pollinator I had to ask it in this thread that I'd already started.

Ouch! Smiling
Chris, we have so many threads on the subject of Phalaenopsis, and that is really great!! So many people have Phals and many questions or ideas. All are valid and can be/ should be happily discussed.
Pollination of Phals? I would stay in this thread. Pollination of Orchids? A new thread would be fine! Sounds reasonable?
But, actually, it would really be nice if we were able to bundle those many threads on the subject of Phals, simply because there is so much good info in these thread, one would hate to disperse them all over the forum. That's the only reason I asked you to combine them. If there is something totally unique, by all means, do start a new thread.

Just a quick thought before I have to run off to the VA Ursula but can't sub-forums be created here under Orchids you'd have Phals, and other types of orchids separately?

My daughter is hand-pollinating her orchids. No bees in the house. Smiling

I agree that Phals. could be a separate thread, due to the fact that there are so many questions about them, The main problem with that is that most of the people asking haven't got a clue about what type of orchid they have, or they wouldn't be here.
