Does anyone know what this is. It's about a plant root ball found after 9/11 in the debris. According to the article, no one has identified the plant:

I know I have seen this plant somewhere with the little leaves, it's going to drive me nuts! :)

Those tiny little, shiny leaves and growth habit make me want to say it's a Codonanthe or some kind of Nematanthus...blooms would be handy.

I think I found what plant it is, Privet Honeysuckle, Lonicera pileata. They mentioned in the article it had purple berries in the fall. And that the bloom was fragrant. I just didn't know you could grow this as a house plant!!!

Lee Anne: We must think alike because my first thought was Nematanthus (Guppy Plant" Goldfish Plant") too ... but foliage can be deceiving.

Lonicera pileata is a pretty shrub. I'm not sure which I love more, the beautiful white flowers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...

or those gorgeous purple berries: http://www.greatplantpicks.org...

I read it's best to grow it in a hanging basket if you can, because the purple berries are underneath. Is that true?

I've only heard of it growing as a hedge, don't know anyone whose grown it as a houseplant. The berries do appear to be beneath the stem/branches and would be more visible if the plant were hanging.

I'm going to try it, will let you know Smiling Found a plant on ebay dirt cheap. I love that place. I'm completely happy with a newly rooted plant, or even cuttings in some cases :)
