Thanks for pointing out it's good features. The other negative might be it's color is more muddy vs. clear. But I happen to really like the color. Other gardeners might not. I definitely thought about using it in my breeding program to try to improve it. I need to figure out if it is a tet or a dip. Confused

Oops, I guess I'm being too nice, I happen to agree with everybody else. I wouldn't even say a short scape is a negative, unless the bloom get lost in the foliage. Shorter DL's for the front of the border is something I specifically look for. I say well done!

The color of your seedling Becky reminds me of Trahlyta. If it's a dip, I would wonder if Trahlyta is one of the parents.

Wow, wouldn't that be something... I just looked at the database at Trahlyta and it does look like your seedling could be a shorter variation of it. It is similar in color and form and with a green throat too. That was a good guess, Cindy. We will have to see what Becky thinks.

Trahlyta was my first thought also. If you have that one, Becky, and it
crossed somehow, at least you would know the ploidy. I thought of that
particular plant because I have only one reverse bi-tone in the whole
garden, and it is a Trahlyta seedling. I rarely see them elsewhere either.

Yes, I have thought all along that one of it's parents is Trahlyta. But because I don't have the actual label for it, I hate to tie a possible parent cultivar to it without being positive. And yes! I've also thought it might be a dip. I need to go back and look at my seeds to see if any crosses took on it last year and what the seedling crosses were. I had almost all seedlings last year except for a few registered daylilies that I was hybridizing with. I went hand-pollinating crazy last year and have so many seeds. I get lost in all the hybridizing and collecting seeds and forget details, so need to check my seed stash in the refrigerator! I am fairly positive that I got some seeds from it. The thing about it is how short it is. Maybe over time the scapes will get taller, but the foliage is short too. I love the foliage! Always looks good when everything else looks attacked by thrips, chewed by aphids, or spotted with rust.

Becky, my Trahlyta seedling is short too. Just now thought of that. Hmmm.
I couldn't list a parent either on merely a guess, and also go crazy playing
lady bee in the garden. Just can't help myself! Whistling

Shirlee - Interesting that your seedling is also short. I may have to look into the background of Trahlyta. I am hoping to get some of the Trahlyta cultivar soon. It's one I know I will love! I only had seeds to grow that I "think" have Trahlyta as a parent.

I too think your seedling looks like it has Trahlyta in it. Have you had this one awhile? I've used Trahylta to hybridize, it is one of the earlier plants I used. I wish I would have kept record of the seeds I sent you to maybe help you out with some of your unknown crosses~

Edited to add: I have at least one Trahlyta seedling. The first year it bloomed it was a one hit wonder at about 12" tall. Last year it grew to probably around 2-1/2 feet and bloomed for several weeks. I'll see if I can find the photos when I get home from work. Break time is up!

Never grew 'Trahylta' here. The coloration is interesting on the seedling, though if I were going to cross it, I would find something where the sepals recurve a bit.... that one sticking straight up at 12 o'clock looks Blinking .
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Sandi - I am positive that some of the seeds I received from you were a cross of Trahlyta. I remember looking at the name, thinking it was a misspelling of some name. Hilarious! It might be a seedling from one of those! It may have also been a Trahlyta x unknown seeds.

Polymerous - yes, that sepal does looking odd, but it catches my eye every time it blooms. The color and shape of the bloom looks so different than anything else that blooms. I need to go through my seed stash to see if I got any seeds from it last year. I think I did and may need to grow some of its children.

Hi Becky...yeah, I never could spell Trahlyta correctly!

Mine is Trahlyta x Pink Super Spider

Here it is in 2013 (guess I've had it longer than I thought!) It bloomed at all once and was very short, I think the foilage even looks similar to yours

Sandi - oh wow! Your seedling of Trahlyta is stunning! I agree that your foliage does look very similar to mine. Something tells me that cultivar may make some very interesting and beautiful children blooms.

I don't believe you spelled it wrong on the seed baggie though I originally thought it was misspelled. I had just never heard of such a name and was surprised it existed at all when I looked in the database. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! I now know the story behind the name.

Robin, I woke up to snow, and 3 soft maples all over my yard this morning. My husband forgot to tell me about the tree service coming Friday. Grumbling Here's what it looked like.
