I made a field trip today to a local daylily garden, Ballard's Daylily Garden over in Slocomb, Al. It was my first visit, and I enjoyed spending some time talking with the owner. As seems to be the case the owners are getting up in age a little, and like so many other daylily vendors are cutting back and limiting the amount of energy expended on trying to care for too many daylilies.
Still, they had a nice selection, and we had a friendly conversation, and she informed me of the regional 14 meeting to be held in Dothan and gave me a little info about that. So anyone in the area in late May, the 20th I think, will have to confirm that there will be three featured gardens I was told, but Ballard's was not to be one of them.
I had ordered the plants before I went on our last trip, so I called yesterday and she had the plants all ready when I arrived today. I had requested that she not trim the leaves and leave the soil on the plants and she agreed. I picked the plants up around four, and by seven thirty tonight I had them all planted and labeled. Of course it was too dark for photos by then but I did take a photo before they were planted.
