It's a great day for October 30! I've been in the garden, planted a few things that should overwinter in warm spots, (Ruttya, trop milkweed) dug others I decided to bring in (black EE- mom doesn't look so happy, but it had a cute little baby offset that is potted by itself) and started on groups of daffodils, from GIta last spring. Moved my larger blue Lobelia to new place to keep, moved autumn fern to giveit more room (big spread), repotted a redbud I am holding for Aspenhill. Planning a hike this afternoon and dinner at a BBQ place.
Plant it and they will come.

Yesterday I watched Noah play his last soccer game of the year, then came home and planted under my little deck. Was going to plant bulbs but just didn't feel it, still have time for those.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Since planting is being talked about--yesterday, I spent a couple hours removing my "Estonian Clematis--"Piilu" from the pot it has been in for several years. The blooming had declined in the past years-so I thought I may need to re-pot it. This was quite the procedure...
Digging out the trellis that had in the old pot--then the root-ball from the old pot---trimming back a bunch of skinny roots--finding a bigger pot to re-pot it in-- Filling the "new" pot with fresh soil (the one I had mixed up) and then, carefully, planting the Clematis and the trellis back in.
It went OK--and I am hoping that next spring it will have a better bloom show
than in the years past.
Swept up all the dirt--and cleaned up the patio--and it now looks like nothing was done there...
Other than this--I am staring at piles and piles of leaves to rake. Or NOT? Glare
Never have finished trimming back the rest of my shrubs in front...etc...

Today was amazingly nice--of course--I was working inside most of the day.

Happy Halloween to you all! Gita

Little Noah is already playing soccer? Time flies!

We haven't raked any leaves yet. Mark mowed yesterday and that got some. There are many more yet to fall.

I work PM shift on Mondays but it'll be much cooler tomorrow, looks like, so the morning may not be the continuation of garden bliss I had pictured when I quit today. The hike was nice (didn't rain TOO hard, lol), the BBQ place had closed down. Roy Rogers tasted pretty good after 14, 000 steps.
Plant it and they will come.

stream of consciouness Fugue =organ music = Andrew Carneighe B'Day today. Didn't know that he donated 7700+pipe organs to churches across the world as well as funding many libraries, etc.

By the beginning of the twentieth century the organ had become an important animator of worship in American churches. Andrew Carnegie turned up the volume by donating nearly 7,700 organs to churches worldwide (4,100 of those in the U.S.), starting in 1902. Carnegie, only a sporadic churchgoer himself, considered fine music a devotional experience, and quoted Confucius’ line: “O Music, sacred tongue of God, I hear thee calling, and I come.” His organ-funding program was very methodical. Churches applying to his foundation had to contribute half of the funds, and they had to select an organ that was suited to the size of their worship hall. It was an ecumenical program—Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, Lutheran, and Episcopal congregations alike received instruments. This highly personal initiative by one of America’s seminal donors transformed American church life"

I have a love hate thing with Christmas lights outside. But you've seen the idea of turning a tomato cage over, winding lights around it, and making a lighted tree cone shape? Well, I did that on the two big pots that flank the front door, and they look surprisingly awesome for a first attempt. Other than those, all I have are strings laid out the perimeter of the flower bed and sidewalk. Relieved and happy to have it done.
Plant it and they will come.

We used to go all out, with lights on the bridge, all of the shrubs, the front porch, along the beds, into the trees, etc. We are very much over that! Rolling on the floor laughing

Rick, no, no say it isn't so Rolling on the floor laughing I love the look of Christmas lights, but they are so darned hard to put up. I'm too scared of heights to do it myself and Mike hasn't seen fit to make the time to do it for years. The last time he put them up, I left them for several years watching strands burn out one by one leaving 10 - 12 foot unlighted gaps Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Got a lot of snickering comments too from people who saw them lit up in the middle of summer. He finally took them down once and for all after the last remaining lighted strand was done. I started "hinting" to him last year and again this year to put new lights up, but he didn't take the "hint" last year, and I doubt he will this year either.

My house is very, very far from winning any neighborhood award when it comes to decorating, that's for sure Hilarious!

I had a really hard time decorating with lights this year because I let the shrubs by the front door get too big and they outgrew the lights I bought for them last year. I seriously thought about digging half of them up so that the lights would fit! I really have to do something next year...whack the monster boxwoods back by half, relocate the overgrown Azaleas, or both.

I threw some lights over the arbor/arch in my back yard after almost falling while trying to stand on a ladder to string them more carefully.

Our biggest problem continues to be squirrel! I can count on them chewing through 3-4 sets of lights each year. Grumbling

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Terri! Cannot blame Mike for being so retermined not to "get" the hint. Putting lights up is hard work, but talking them down is worse, no fun at all. I love looking at other people's lights, hehe!

The houses on E Juniper Ave in Sterling VA put on a spectacular Christmas light show each year. I used to go there each year when I lived in VA. If anybody happens to be in the area, it's worth stopping by for a quick tour.

Very pretty entrance, Lisa.

Sorry to hear about the squirrel problem, Rick. Maybe you can sprinkle some hot pepper powder in the area? Not sure what can be done to keep squirrels away. I accepted defeat after they ate 599 of my 600 newly planted crocus bulbs. I only got one flower the following spring. Grumbling

You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean.
