Cinda, it is a beauty. I have Chandelier Tree (Medinilla cumingii) but that one is nowhere near as pretty as M. magnifica in my opinion. Medinilla are shrubs that grow 4 to 5 feet tall so it surprised me to see one in a hanging basket and I love the one in your photo! I wonder if they can be pruned to stay small??

Oh, I have seen similar plant in another plant forum, and it was called Medinilla magnifica v. Dolce Vita, very pretty plant indeed! Says a Philippine native plant, so that means high humidity needs.

Wow, that sure is pretty! I googled and I see it referred to as M. 'J' Adore Dolce Vita in one place and Dolce Vita at another place ... wonder which is the correct cultivar name? This site says it's rare and often found as an epiphyte growing on trees but at the bottom it says it's M. magnifica so maybe a cultivar of magnifica that stays small? Sure wish there was more information about it. I'd love to have one that could stay in a hanging basket! I'll have to be on the lookout for it around here!

Me too! I am interested now as well, since the other grower has it growing with her orchids. I will also look this April when I go home in Manila, not that I can bring it back here, but will try and encourage my MIL to try and grow one in her garden. Smiling

You don't think they may have cut the blooms off a larger bush and stuck it in a pot just for display purposes? Blinking

I am thinking, since it is an epiphytic plant, it is grown like an Hoya, so it can grow in a container.
