I'm looking for gardening gloves that are long enough to cover my forearms. Drs. Foster and Smith have nitrile gloves intended for aquarium use. But would these hold up to the tasks of the garden? I don't want to break the bank. I just need some protection from scratches. Im allergic to something out there and my skin went crazy. (Remember that MRSS scare i had last summer?) $36 rose gloves at my local Ace Hardware might be over doing it.

Amazon has them starting at about $16. Put "rose gloves" in your search line.

Or go to Goodwill or salvation Army and pick up a pair of pants for a small child, like denim.

Cut off the legs and sew extensions onto the cuff of a pair of gloves you already own.

You might need a garter to hold them up to your elbows.

Find pants that already have suspenders attached. That will take care of half of it. Rolling on the floor laughing

I usually use those long cotton driving gloves to cover my forearm, and then my regular gardening gloves for my hands. I find it at some Daiso Japanese stores here in the Bay area. It just costs about $1.50 a pair here. It is cotton so allows the skin to breathe at least.

I see they have an online store : http://www.daisojapan.com/p-27...

But usually the ones I get have printed design and just covers my forearm not my hands.

I use Playtex living gloves when I'm doing everything but pruning roses. They cover most of my long forearms and they are comfortable

@Tarev, you just have me an idea! I used to wear arm warmers when i rode my road bike. It is made of performance fabric. That might work. Maybe not to hot? But i have seen Japanese wear arm covers white driving, while at the beach, etc. They don't like sun exposure at all. I bet my Japanese friend can find something for me when she goes to Japan! Thank You!

Glad you can have another source Cheryl! I like those I got from Daiso, at least come gardening time, I maybe in tshirt but with the arm cover, still protection from the sun, so I do not need to wear an extra jacket as I work outside. I know I also got gray colored ones with thumb holes, so it will not slide.

Take your favorite pair of gloves , an empty bread sack ,, break your finger through the end of the sack ,(the closed end , lol
Then wrap your hand and arm with duck tape , around that , Takes about ten minutes and you have ugly working long gloves
Just don't wrap the fiber duck tape to tight , you might assistance to wrap , but I don't ,

Works well at the glove and sleeve with worn out shirt sleeves and such connected to the glove
For the skin breath thing

Daiso is a dangerous place. I sent my Hubby for kitchen sponges and he didn't come back for 3 hours.

Hilarious! Hilarious! I always love Daiso! First visited their branch in Union City, CA..from then on, it has been a must stopover if we happen to be around there. Thankfully they have opened several more branches around the Bay Area, but the one in Union City I think is the biggest they have. Big Grin Will easily make your wallet light!

This is one of the funniest strings I've seen Rolling on the floor laughing Duck tape- one of the mailboxes down the road is held on to the post by duck tape wrapped around the box and support post about 25 times. It has never been knocked off the post by the snow plow. Multi-tasker!

Bionic makes wonderful gauntlet gloves. I've used the same pair for 8 years, and I prune around 800 roses every year, plus loads of trees. They are made of goat skin. They were a bit pricy, but I doubt I'll have to buy another pair in my lifetime!
They are not for hand digging, though. I just checked, and Amazon has these on sale right now! They are $24, which is way less than what they normally are. Hurray!

Um, you could just wear a long sleeved T-shirt, Cheryl. Or I had a couple of long sleeved shirts that were so stained I never wore them any more, and I cut the sleeves off one of them for that purpose a long time ago. (we had a bougainvillea 'hedge' at our other house, and weeding it was fondly known as "weed and bleed" by DH and me)

Some duct tape and or big elastic bands to hold them up, comfy arm protectors.
