wow... no wonder Bermuda's considered invasive in some areas!

Yep. I don't compost it or spread lawn clippings in beds. It serves a purpose but from what I'm hearing in regions where Bermuda thrives Augustine may be an alternative answer.

I'm going to give this a try this year. I can get tons of cardboard daily at work, cut it to fit and I've got some landscaping fabric staples I can use to hold it down. I'm planting a bunch of iris so I'll just make the holes where they're going and keep the mulch from touching them.

I've also read in some of the Garden by the Moon places online that weeding on certain suggested days will keep things from growing back as quickly. That is always worth a test to try it too.

Once Bermuda gets established, it's almost impossible to eradicate. It spreads by seeds, underground runners, broken pieces of itself. Awful, awful, awful, awful. NO, never compost it. Grumbling
I garden for the pollinators.

I like to use the large paper garbage bags which are sold in the fall for leaves.
They are heavier then newsprint and after being wet , they do not blow around as much.

Since this original post, I've tried the wet paper method, and cardboard to keep the Bermuda grass away. Both seemed to work at first but as summer got going, the Bermuda grass won big time. And, like Imapigeon said, don't try to till the stuff, I warned my dh but he insisted on doing it anyway and the stuff came back thicker and stronger than ever. I've tried a few other methods that didn't work either.

At this point, I'm thinking about bricking in my cottage garden. Hilarious!
