My Blue Crown Passion Vine is blooming! The frame it's growing on is up against a south facing brick wall so the vine never died back this Winter .. thus the super early blooms!

Lucky you! Sigh, I've tried so many times to keep a passie alive here through the winter with a notable lack of success. Crying

I had the same problem until I put the frame against the brick wall, but considering your zone I don't think that would help.

What's ironic is that we had one growing next to our house in SoCal; darn thing tried to take over the entire flower bed. Heh, it was so obnoxious that I tried to get rid of it with no success! It's probably still there. Rolling my eyes.

How very pretty, Anne!! Don't their blooms just make your heart skip. I know that sounds hokey but....
Woofie, I grow a lot in pots and the tender ones, I keep in the tub all winter. Could you try that?

I overwintered my two plants indoors. A couple months ago I cut back much of the vine. It has rebounded and has completely filled a 4 ring tomato cage trellis. I may have to cut it back again before I bring it outdoors. Healthy, it is!

This is the kind I grow. I find it very weedy....grows every where. Are all passies like that? I am tempted to try other colors but hesitate.

Yes Missy, Passiflora can get out of hand very quickly .. that's why I always grow it in containers and never put it in the ground.

I've already notice some of the Gulf fritillary munching on mine .. way too early - usually a mid to end of Summer event.

Mine has been blooming for quite a while and now has many fruits, but the fruits - felt like a ballon - kinda hollow.
This is a thug --it's taken over one side of the fence; had it for several years.

I was considering digging up a piece of a root, that grows naturally around these parts, near a ditch that the City doesn't always mow down, completely. Sometimes, they cut it & then no blooms & the Butterfly I guess would like to lay some eggs on those. But, the flower is much different than yours & may be incarnata, instead of coerulea ? I did notice, that bumble bees seem to be the :perfect pollinator, of them.

They even grew wild in Hawaii & I had a favorite, that was awesome & even better than the one called 'Incense' which I grew, just because it reminded me, so much, of the other..
I remember lifting on the 40' vine in the under growth to figure out, where it may have a flower, or hopefully locate a dryfruit even to get seeds, many years later, but no such luck !

Yes, all passies are like that. I was told recently by a nursery man, the white ones are even more aggressive than the blue ones.
