I don't know about any of the others, but our Allen's that stay all year can have up to 5 clutches a year, depending on weather, so they can't waste time spoiling those babies.

It doesn't matter much, Linda. They are really cute, no matter. Lovey dubby They do look a little bluish... maybe they're Costa's Hummingbirds? Here's a picture ~ http://sdakotabirds.com/specie...

Hurray! Linda, that was a great ending to the Hummingbird babies, both raised successfully and left the nest. That was very interesting the way the mom tried to urge the baby out of the nest. Thumbs up

I got a couple of pics of Allen's today I think this Allen's in the bird bath, but it could be Rufus rufus. Very hard to tell them apart.

Thumb of 2016-04-15/ctcarol/93d16b I know the rest are male Allen's. He is guarding the feeder this evening

As you can tell, the light is about gone. I tried the porch light and the flash, but this was the best I could get.

Hard to tell which some of these are. Many juveniles at this time of year, but Aside from the male Allen's, there are Juvenile Anna's, and I think a juvenile Black chin in these pics. Anna's have the white eyebrow.

Super Carol! Thanks for sharing those. Why don't your hummers fight? I see 3 on at a time.

Good question, Ann. Mine fight like dogs and cats except just as it gets dark. They seem to be OK sharing then and when it is extremely cold. The rest of the time it is total combat. Hilarious!

As Linda said, they do fight...especially the males, but when you have hungry Mamas with chicks to feed or lots of juveniles, all bets are off. That male who guards the feeder is so outnumbered. Dawn and dusk are prime time for feeders, and I sometimes see several in the fountain/bath in the mornings too.

Hurray! DH saw the first Hummingbird of the season yesterday, a Rufous, that is the earliest by 2 days in the 15 years we have lived here. Hurray! I had one feeder out, this morning I put 2 more out, hope to get lots more this year with the cluster feeder idea. I want to get a Sheppards hook to put closer to the patio as there is nothing to hang them on there.
