I have noticed, for lack of a better term, black thread in some of my trees...it really does look exactly like black thread Shrug! A friend told me that it was from some kind of spider, but didn't know which. I just went to look for maybe getting a picture. We have had pretty good storms lately so naturally I can't find any now. Any ideas who might leave this stuff??

Does it hang from the trees, or is it stuck to leaves?

It hangs from the trees...doesn't look at all like the pics in the first link. May be a fungus as it is thread like as described in the second link. Will walk out back and see can I find some there...have in the past. I usually see it in the cedar trees by the driveway since that's where I park.

Success Hurray! there is quite a bit in the trees out back...some kind of scrub oak. Got a halfway decent outside pic and the rest are inside of what I brought back with me...the last ones of the "thread" that I was able for the most part get off the twigs. Need to put a macro lens on my wish list Whistling

It doesn't look like a fungus which I would expect to disintegrate.

Are there horses nearby? Birds building nests use animal hairs to line the nest.

I didn't know there was such a thing as horse hair lichen! Hilarious!

From what I can find, it likes cooler temperatures, I haven't found any in Florida

Dirt...horse hair lichen is perhaps a possibility. The link you posted was taking FOREVER to load on my hateful dial-up, so I will go back to it later when it can do it's thing while I do something besides sit here waiting I tip my hat to you.
