Usually, the deer and squirrel dig up my tulip and hyacinth bulbs and I end up with nothing.
Last fall, I decided to try using some tulle fabric that I had left from a fountain filter basket. I laid the material over the area and placed some rocks around the edges to keep it down. The critters left everything alone and I now have hyacinth and tulips... where
I planted them!
As fate would have it, the fabric store near me is in the process of closing and everything is on sale. I literally bought all of the black, dark green and brown tulle and nylon net they had left. I have now covered my hosta beds as well.
The advantage of the net fabric is that it lets in the sun, water and air without being too heavy for the plants to lift as they grow. And as soon as a critter tried to chomp on the plant, they get a mouthful of nylon!
