So today was the day to get all of my peonies fertilized for the spring. We're done with snow, at least for a week or so, and I'm coming up on a really busy month to 6 weeks, so it was very important to get as much done as possible.
So my husband is trying to watch what he eats for a while to drop a few extra pounds around the middle. He's complained that he typically doesn't eat while at work, that he's not hungry when he leaves home and our cafeteria is pretty bad and not health conscious at all. He loves boiled eggs so I volunteered to make some for him this morning before I got busy outside....you probably already see where this is going....
I put the eggs on to boil and then went outside to get all of my stuff together. Found the bulb food and Azomite, found containers to mix it and scissors to trim the few peonies I didn't get to last fall. I found my little portable seat and got my camera--intention was to take pics of the new growth as I moved mulch around to put down fertilizer. That didn't last very long; decided to get the fertilizing done at take pics later. Started with my poor new tree peony (from last fall) that the deer munched on. I got it fertilized and then wrapped the tomato cage over it with chicken wire. I think it's deer proof now! Fertilized everything in 5 beds and was very happy with the number of "snouts" I saw. I even found growth on a few that I was sure were lost to last year's terrible spring. I was out there, happily weeding and getting excited about all of the peony blooms I'm hoping to see this spring, when my husband came out and asked "did you forget anything this morning?" Me: "I don't THINK so, what are you talking about?" Him: "Maybe some EGGS?" Me: "Oh *****!!" This is TWO HOURS later! The eggs all exploded, didn't know eggs could explode and shoot that far! There was egg all over my kitchen! What a nasty mess! And I didn't even try to clean that poor pan, just threw it away. I bet I'll be cleaning bits of egg from places I missed for the rest of the month.
I didn't finish my fertilizing, ran out when I was around 2/3 of the way through the last, biggest bed. I'll order some more bulb food and Azominte and will finish that bed when I get back next Monday from visiting my daughter in Chattanooga. You can be absolutely certain I will have nothing on the cooktop or in the oven when I start out there next time, though!
