The ones for me that really need some water this time of year are the new acquired plants. I have found that if I don't provide the water they just shrivel up and die. : (
Seems once they have established roots they do just fine.

We just got some rain Hurray! Not much, just enough to lay the dust a cool it off a bit - the temperature dropped about 10 degrees (from 29.4 Celsius to just around 20 - sorry I don't know the translation to F. - but it was too hot, and now it's just right!)

I too share your concern about the freeze thaw freeze thaw cycle. Two years back, I had all my plants make it through until spring, when we have several days of the freeze thaw freezing rain freeze thaw cycles. I lost a lot of plants that year. Ever see a semp completely enclose in transparent ice? Thumbs down

I know I felt better when the temp dropped! Phew, too hot!

I haven't seen a Semp enclosed in ice, but I bet it didn't make it! I was looking at all of my collection that are in the 4" pots, they are absolutely incredible! I promise I will take individual pictures, but the thought of it is overwhelming right now...Thumb of 2010-07-30/BlueFox/baffb9

I apologize for taking this thread off topic Rolling my eyes.

Actually, most of them did make it through the ice cube stage but losses were higher than typical.

Unfortunately I have seen them enclosed in ice. It's hard on them but most of mine made it too.

Jacki, what a gorgeous sight, all those happy plants!!

They really are amazing plants if they can survive that!

Thanks Chris - they certainly do seem to be happy, the colours are amazing right now. I'm seeing some with incredible water marks which I love, and the changes they go through are fascinating. You have to inspect them closely every week at least, so you don't miss them.

They really do go through some amazing changes in appearance. That is one of the things that make them such fascinating plants.
I have had mine encased in ice and all have come through okay. Although that might have been what happened to most of my Pink Pearl now that I think about it.
