Hello everyone,

I planted 3 ginger roots...Kahili ginger Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum)
in part shade, good soil, a few weeks ago. And as any Central Floridians know, we had that weekend of never ending rain. So I thought by now they would show some sign of life, so I uncovered one (I was directed to plant just below the surface so I did) and it felt a bit soft. Not mush but definitely not firm green. Here is what they look like now. Left one has some green.

Can anyone share any advice on what I should do next, I left them out in the open (garage) to wait for answers.

thanks

Do I see buds on the first one? I can't tell. But if they are soft, that is a problem. They may have drowned.

I don't grow that specific ginger, but what I do in a situation like this is to put the rhizomes on my concrete patio, next to the house and in full shade, and let them dry. If any of my rhizomes have viable tissue, they will begin to sprout. It may take a week or more (in warmish weather) to sprout. Be patient. If no sprouts.............no viability.

Thank you for your responses. I will let them sit out and see if they are still alive.
