This little Nepenthes 'Lady Luck' just joined my family. I plan to keep it in the kitchen window and am hoping it will take care of those pesky fruit flies that drive me crazy when the tomatoes are sitting on the counter during the summer.

What new plants are coming to live in your garden this year?

Stumbled on a Yellow Bird Of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) a few weeks ago. The good news with this one it has variegation on the leaves.

My whole garden is new since I am starting over again at a new house but a few of my rarer cooler finds in the last few months include
Aechmea tayoensis, Philodendron martianum, Gardenia tubifera Kula & Hibiscus fiji island, Sabal var. Lisa. I'm also stoked about the many ti logs I've started too. The garden is slowly filling in.

WOW, that is just fabulous. Looks like you have been there forever. Great job. You must be keeping Tropiflora on their toes.

Hi & welcome, Junglegal! You're off to an AMAZING start! Wow! Completely gorgeous gardening going on! What is the vine growing up your tree? If you get a chance, I'd love to see a pic of your P. martianum. Wonder if it's called martian plant for a common name?

I don't go to Tropiflora much anymore. Maybe once a year if that. I was lucky enough to bring 60-70 plants with me from the old garden. I've been into gardening for around 20 yrs so I have some access to wholesale sources and of course gardening friends always graciously help me stock up too. The fun for me is in the hunt for the plants. The vine growing up the sabal palm is a vanilla orchid. I set the pot there in April 2014 and the thing practically leapt out of the pot and attached itself. My Phil martianum is in a 3 gal & not planted yet. It is quite a unique looking Phil and makes a great border plant in the garden. I do not have a pic but a quick google search brings up a few. I bought it from Marie at Ree Gardens and if you are ever in that area of Miami Florida, it is a must see. Unfortunately, they do not do mail-order.

TY, Junglegal! That vanilla orchid is the coolest plant in the pic, IMVHO. If I ever go to Miami, I'm bringing a truck to haul plants home!

I also bought a Thespesia sp tree. No firm ID just yet but the leaves are awesome as are the flowers. I have high hopes for this one! Mine is only 8' right now. Scott, hoping mine will set seed! Never grew it before. Very hardy vine. Gets blasted by afternoon sun.

I am not familiar with Thespesia but the flowers look like it might be in the hibiscus family?

Not much is known about this Thespesia. Credit for the above pics goes to Tim the head gardener at the Audubon House in Key West. He shared these & I had to try one. All I know is yes, in Hibiscus family. I was also told without full sun, the leaves revert to green & uncurl. Mine even shows red, reminds me of a caladium.

Here is another find at Lowes today. A large 10gal coccothrinax crinita old man palm. It was mislabeled as a bottle and scooped up for $39!! I have another bought as a 1 gal in 2008 that is barely knee high. These are slow growers.

That is a steal! Saw the same at my lowes for $149.00.
Nice Bottle and Spindle palms were also seen.
