I agree, Regina.

I also leave comments when I receive plants, on the Classified threads about the ATP member(s) I got the plants from during their Classified sale. And I also mention members in the list of plants that I have. In all honesty, I've been very pleased with any daylilies I've received from ATP members. Plants that members send are just as good or better than what the top notched daylily businesses send ... except MUCH cheaper! (Otherwise, I'd have very few registered and named daylilies.) The kindness and generosity of members on the Daylily Forum have been a true blessing to me and I can't thank those folks enough. Their plants are very special to me because they were shared from a friend's garden! Thank You!

I have been with the lily auction many years and hate to hear something like this, it kind of gives us all a black eye, but needs to be dealt with and hopefully resolved in a positive manner for you. If all else fails contact Mike Longo, he will resolve your problem.

I agree with Fred. Try to work it out with seller and if the seller fails to make it right, Mike is committed to getting an LA issue resolved. He helped me with an auction issue and it got resolved very quickly.

Ive gotten worse than that from 'big' LA sellers. Its a big let down, especially with the plants some send, but mine have always made it. That is the exact reason I stopped buying from buyers I have bought from for years......the SF. Until the last two years, I had never ordered a sf, that I didnt get at least a df, but not the last two years. Ive gotten sf's that look just like that. As I said earlier, I didnt order from the LA for the first time in forever this year,........
well until last night Whistling . Rich was selling 4 and 5 fan clumps.

I was close to bidding on a SF yesterday, but have had poor luck in the past with SF's - so I talked myself out of bidding. It was going to be a Mother's Day gift to myself Rolling my eyes.

And sometimes we have to remind ourselves that dip fans are usually smaller than tets.

That said, I would contact the seller first. Then baby the plants. Who knows, they might make it. Realize that I live in the north, but when I have had to baby some purchases, they might survive for a couple years, then disappear all together. Perhaps it's the weather, or I get tired of babying them - not sure.

I will admit, that I sure do love the LA, even with some bad experiences. Big Grin ~jan

I would contact the seller too. I have gotten worse also. I now just avoid their auctions and only bid on the sellers that I know send wonderful plants. Annette Rice is Annettesmagic on the LA is one of my favorites!

A good seller will refund your money and let you keep the plants. Or they will offer to send replacements at N/C and let you keep the plants you've already received. I've encountered this at least a couple of times with different sellers and they have refunded my money no questions asked. Both on the LA and when I buy direct from their website.

Let us know how it all works out ~

Update on plants:

I received from the seller an apology for the plants arriving in their condition. They stated that someone else is doing the shipping due to issues keeping them away from the garden.

At the seller's suggestion, I agreed to keep the plants to see if they would survive, with the agreement to have my money refunded if they do not. They also stated that they may have more to send, but it would be a few weeks before they would know. I really hope they make it, as I really wanted these two cultivars. (Queen of Green and Kaleidoscope Queen Smiling )

It is good to know that they apologized and agreed to make it right. It was hard for me to believe that thousands of positive ratings on the LA could be wrong. I am also glad that I didn't drag the person's name through the mud, especially if they are already having problems. At the very least, they will now be aware that some plants have been shipped out this way, and hopefully will make improvements.

I am also glad to bring awareness to people that don't buy much through mail order...they are supposed to look better than this! Ironically, I was digging daylilies when the mail woman delivered my package of daylilies! I have only mailed daylilies to people 3 times. By comparison, these are how mine looked upon arrival to their new location:

Thumb of 2016-04-13/scflowers/c15ee6

A little dry, but good roots!

So glad to have this somewhat resolved. I hate to be 'that person', but feel like if you don't let people know there's a problem, they can't fix it.

On a positive note, I got an email confirmation saying that my next daylilies on are their way from another ATP member, and I've been assured that there are no wimpy plants in the box!! Hurray!

scflowers,
Glad things look like they are going to be worked out. I love how your photo shows large and small fans, but all healthy fans with a good root system. People need to know not to expect all giant fans, some just will not be as large as others, but still they should have good root system developed and there should not be a lot of broken, or diseased looking roots on any plant.

So far so good, Regina. Hope they will live, and hope you get to see
blooms later in the season. One never knows about these flowers.
Many of these plants have great survival instincts.

I have purchased over 500 in the last couple of years mainly by mail and probably have seen it all. I have lost some that looked good and some that looked terrible bounced right back when planted so who knows...I would plant them and see. Especially if they will replace them if they die. They are pretty hardy.
Have a Happy Daylily Day!!

I'll always remember the H. citrina I bought at an auction: it looked like a curled, bleached, half-rotten spring onion when it arrived. But I find daylilies very hardy. Despite some terrible fans received, none have died. However, it doesn't mean I had anything to do with a particular seller ever again.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
