As a comment about Autumn Sage (Salvia greggii), plantmanager wrote:

I'm very pleased with my Salvia greggii! It has grown well and blooms nearly full time from spring through fall. The deer and rabbits are avoiding it, which is wonderful. I live in an area where most plants get eaten by the critters. It does seem to need a bit more water than some of my other plants, but I don't mind because the flowers are so bright and beautiful.

So glad to see another fan of this plant! It's a staple in my gardens because the deer don't eat it. And I love all of the different colors available. I've found that cuttings root quickly, so I'm propagating more "free" plants. Bees and butterflies enjoy it too. Another plant family that survives browsing is salvia. The deer even ate the roses, thorns and all!!!

I know what you mean! Deer and rabbits even eat my cacti! It's so exciting when I find things they won't touch. I need to make some cuttings too, so I can have more of them. I also need some other colors!

Just reread my post and thought *DUH*, Autumn Sage IS a salvia.
I think I must have been out in the sun too long today....or I stopped to think and forgot to start again.
And yes, Karen, the white-tails are a problem! Jerry Parsons calls them the "truly destructive garden beast-of-eat".

I hadn't heard that Jerry Parsons saying, but I sure believe it! They even ate an entire Oleander bush that supposedly is very toxic. I didn't see any dead deer, but bet they were mighty sick!
