I am going to have to relocate a bunch of White Butterfly Ginger, Hedychium coronarium, and rather than replant it, I would just as soon sell and ship it. This is the prime time to plant this ginger, as the rhizomes are nice and plump and are just starting to sprout. You'll get nice-size rhizomes, 6-10" in length, and several plants can and do sprout from a single rhizome. These rhizomes are now discounted, and purchasing three (or more) gives you the most bang-for-the-buck. Shipping three rhizomes costs the same as shipping one rhizome.

White Butterfly is very easy to grow in all kinds of conditions and their highly fragrant blooms attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.

Contact me via T-Mail if interested and tell me where you are located when you contact me.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.

I don't know anything about ginger, is this the kind you eat? or just ornamental?

It is the ornamental kind and had a beautiful white and highly fragrant bloom. It smells a lot like a gardenia to me anyway. I have some of this. So that's why I was answering your question, not that I was trying to but into your conversation, just trying to help! Smiling

Thanks, Suga. The fragrance to me is gardenia/honeysuckle and when it is in bloom, and the wind is gentle, the fragrance covers 50' from the plants.

This is the flower, @Frillylily.

Still available?

Better in ground than in a pot?

Am I remembering that gingers like "wet feet?" Wondering if it's a candidate for adding to a water garden pot, with its container a couple inches into the water but most of its rootball above the water line....

The White Butterfly is a very versatle plant for me, Jill. I grow it both in the landscape and in large pots. Growing in pots, they will be not quite so tall and generally will begin blooming several weeks after those in the landscape. Mine overwinter outside without admendment, both in the ground and in the pots. We have frequent lows in the 20's and some teens.

They preform best with at least 6 hrs. of sun, but I have some that get way more shade than sun, and though they might bloom a bit later than those in full sun, they still bloom well. I have never planted mine in soggy areas but the literature say that they will do fine as bog-plants. My soil is poor, poor, poor, but the Butterflies still perform well. I use Osmacote, applied in early spring, but suppliment that with water-soluble fertilizer quite frequently. These plants, along with companion 'Sunset' Canna, are heavy feeders and like a lot of moisture as well. They will still bloom well without "pampering", but simply preform best with plenty of water and fertilizer.

Ken, sending you a tree mail because I want to order one of the Gingers and also ask if an orchid on your site is still available. Green Grin!
