Okay, this tree is a volunteer and has grown quickly to probably close to nine or ten feet tall. I was going to cut down but I sort of like the blooms but I don't know what it is. Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a choke cherry.

Rolling on the floor laughing Nothing at all ... I sometimes forget to enlarge the photos and the first thing that came to mind was it reminded me of the Wild Black Cherries we used to have in the backyard at our old house. Now that I've seen the larger photos I think you nailed it with the ID of Chokecherry. Thumbs up

Just curious - what's the objection to Chokecherry? The birds love them, they have flowers, fruit & fall color. I like them, but I've got plenty of room here.

And Chokecherry jam!! Lovey dubby

When I was growing up, my grandparents lived in Unionville, NV. Up the canyon there was a HUGE Chokecherry tree. If I picked a bucket full, my grandmother made Chokecherry Jam. I had to stand on my horse's back to get to the lowest branches.

This one came up in a row of already planted shrubs and it's too large to move. It won't work there. It's my son's property and he's not keen on "stray" plants either.

Choke cherry will usually end up growing next to a more desirable tree, causing growth problem with the other tree, so we end up removing the cherry.
