Hugely pretty. No zone info in our data base. It can, of course, be sought out elsewhere...just thought someone might want to add it.

This is not something I bought (not that I wouldn't) I did enjoy the purple one I ended up with and collected seeds from both the purple and red salvia splendens we had, as well as started a few plants of both for this year. They were blooming when mom brought them home in mid May until first frost I am sure ( last photo I have of it is on Sept 10)

Most of ours were planted in small or mixed containers and did not have room enough to get as big as I believe they would of if given more space , but did well even though they were being attacked by mealybugs near the end of the season , but sadly that is not unusual for most plants here.

Beautiful and colorful container collection. Love the little angel holding the bird in front of the pots. They all looked healthy in your pics.

Mine shares a pot on the patio with a night-blooming jasmine & assorted other smaller plants. It tries to invade but can be stopped fairly easily; I'm not sure what it would do left to its own devices!

The leaves smell ichy to me but the scent doesn't stay and it doesn't scent the air. The flowers are the reddest flowers in my little garden and it blooms here a couple of times a year. The hummingbird that visits me regularly LOVES this plant. It is his first stop whether it's blooming or not; he checks it every day. I keep it for that reason alone.

It's blooming right now & I'll try & catch a good picture to share.

All in all, it's a happy easy plant -- surely a keeper!

Julie,

Looking forward to seeing your pic and be sure to submit it to the database. Scarlet Sage (Salvia splendens)

Wonderful that your hummer loves it and checks it first every day. What kind of hummer are you talking about? We have the Ruby-throated hummers in the east, but I know out west you get more than one kind.

Julie,

Those last 3 pics are a gorgeous colored salvia, but they're not the splendens type. They look like a greggii, microphylla or jamensis type.

Look at your pics in the pots in your above post (Post #1116494) and and the database link pics Scarlet Sage (Salvia splendens) and you'll see what I'm talking about. Those pics you posted in the splendens database will have to be moved (or deleted) out of there, since they're not the right type, sorry to say.

Hopefully, @FBTS will chime in and figure out what salvia type these latest pics are.

I apologize. I responded to a request for comment on a plant I allegedly owned. Sorry if I added to the confusion. Feel free to move it wherever you think it belongs. I've only one of the salvia plant.
