This has been a bad year for my roses.. so dry & hot. But here's some last minute blooms. I doubt I'll get any real more of a flush between now & a first frost.

This is why I think this is my last parade - you can see just how cold this front was in some of the pictures. The far right picture in the 2nd row shows the clouds below the mountain tops.

I was bad. I cut some blooms this morning. I was burying 2 more roses I got from Cliff yesterday (Pandemonium http://www.helpmefind.com/gard... and Duftrausch http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...) and I saw lots of gorgeousness. Because it's been cooler than normal (mid 60s) and it rained a LOT, got lots and lots of new buds. I so desperately want to deadhead for 1 more flush, but I saw too many geese heading south yesterday so I know it's getting too close to frost. So I limited myself to just a few blooms this morning for work.

California Dreamin' (Pink/White), Scentimental (red/white striped), Sunny Delite (yellow), Mardi Gras (orange), Melodie Parfumee (deep mauve) Koko Loko (light lavender tan/mauve), and that mystery pinkish English rose as shown above:

I can't see the mystery pinkish English one in the bouquet, Toni, but the photo of it above is certainly intriguing. I love roses with a million petals.

How sad that the season's almost over for you and Joanne and your wonderful roses.

Joanne, that Pink Grootendorst is just beautiful.

PPal - I just don't want the roses to be putting out new growth.. we're going to get a frost very soon and I don't want them putting any more energy than necessary putting out new roses. Too bad I don't have a switch to flip to let them know, HEY, IT'S WINTER TIME!! Sad :( Sad

and they just keep blooming.. now when I don't WANT Them to.. first hard freeze is threatening on the 14th when it's supposed to get down to 22degs that night. Sounds about right.

So here's some more purdies. Didn't have my camera, so used my phone.

It's not an ordered rose.. it's a rose from HD, Lowes, or maybe (but I doubt it) Cliff. But, here's the kicker: I wouldn't have ordered/bought this rose because I'm not one for apricot roses, so it's gotta be a screwed up one rose.

wait

Just thought of something

Remember when I bought that ... oh... dammit.. SHREVEPORT! That's the rose that I bought as Shreveport!! I remember Sue telling me specifically that that wasn't Shreveport. I remember looking it up before I bought it to see what I was buying as it was labeled Shreveport and the few buds on there was that soft pink that turns into this monstrosity. I still like it, but that's what I bought it as!! Had to jar the ol' noggin for a minute or two. That's why it didn't have a tag when I dug down.. those particular roses didn't have tags on them specifically, just on the buckets. That was in the same batch that I got the three Orchid Masterpieces (2 for me, 1 for Zuzu).

Something wicked this way comes....

The wind is horrendous. The petals have been violently ripped off the roses. Broken tree branches lay on the ground. The grey clouds have popped over the mountains and look laden with some kind of moisture.

I took a few pictures of the blooms yesterday, but I wish I had taken more. This probably is the end for this year.

Really? Is that what a cold front looks like? We don't get any visible warning - usually just a sudden shift of the wind to the north accompanied by a 20 degree drop in temperature.
Still being optimistic: maybe it's just a cool front.
