That's what a cold front boiling off the mountains looks like.

We had some horrendous winds yesterday. Over 60mph here in my county. I had bought some new baby trees to replace those that had croaked, or just to put new trees in (I love trees) and one of them got broken by the wind. Sad So it's dead. Crying Crying Crying

So I decided, that since they're predicting snow for us tonight, let's go ahead & get one last picture of the front yard as is. Need to bust butt tonight preparing for snow (getting last minute buckets put away, burying last minute roses under mulch, etc etc etc).

I guess it snowed pretty good in the mountains again last night. Here's Mount Evans, which is the closest 14er to Denver (a "14er" is a mountain over 14,000ft).

Here's Long's Peak on the right. It's a nice 14er right outside of Estes Park & is featured on the Colorado quarter as our state symbol. Honestly, our symbol on the Quarter should have been an upside SUV. I've hiked this. It's not too bad of a hike.. there's a trail that goes right to the top. Plus the snowfront building on the Front Range.

And here's the snowfront coming in off the mountains.

Oh how sad! Your front yard looks so prosperous and happy. I hate to think that it is about to be buried in snow!

We're forecasted for an inch tonight and an inch tomorrow.

Durango (SW corner of the state... at least 4 hours from here) got around 7" of snow yesterday.
--
DURANGO, Colo.—People in southwestern Colorado are digging out after a winter storm left more than 7 inches of snow in some areas.

Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Nancy Shanks says the department had two snowplows clearing roads.

Chains were required on all commercial vehicles and buses on Red Mountain, Molas and Coal Bank passes.

Residents in lower areas got about 2 inches of new snow.

Wolf Creek Ski Area in southwest Colorado plans to open for skiing Saturday and Sunday after a storm left three feet of snow.

Snow fell Thursday in the central Colorado mountains and at the Copper Mountain ski area, which started making snow for the season Wednesday night. The Loveland and Arapahoe Basin ski areas started their snow guns Thursday.

And now the snowguns are up & running in the high country.

It's a domino effect: First Copper Mountain, then Loveland Ski Area and, later in the day Thursday, snowmakers at Arapahoe Basin fired up the snow guns for the first time this season.

Making snow at Summit County's ski areas has begun, leading the way among Colorado Ski Country USA member resorts. A fall storm that pushed into the mountains Thursday lent a hand with a few inches of snow to get things going — bringing with it the race to opening day.

Crews at Loveland were on a 24-hour standby before they fired up the guns at 2 p.m. Thursday. They start at Catwalk at the top of Chair 1 and work their way downhill to Mambo and Homerun to create a top-to-bottom trail that's more than a mile and nearly 1,000 vertical feet. When it's complete, they can announce Opening Day 2011.

"We had to wait out some warm nights," said Eric Johnstone, Loveland's snowmaking and trail maintenance manager. "We thought we might be able to start last night, but the weather did not cooperate. Fortunately, the cold temperatures arrived today and we were able to fire up the snow guns this afternoon. The forecast is looking good, and we are ready to take advantage of the cold temperatures."
