What a neat story shoe. Glad you made that one legged chicken proud Lovey dubby

Reminds me of the time Hank set a mouse trap in the barn and of course caught it and the trap killed it. But Hank felt so bad because the mouse only had one leg.

You're right, it always makes us feel better when we do for others. Thumbs up

Only you, Shoe. Only you Hilarious! Reading your blog is a fun way to begin a day. Today I'm starting with canning a big box of mini apricots my neighbor gave me. Can you grow them there?

Mornin', Folks...

Aww, Vic, a poor little one legged mouse. Would've made a nice pet, eh? Smiling

Christine, I'll get the camera out today, hatched out more chicks yesterday and last night. I imagine today may be the last hatching day. As for what kind they are, some are Aracauna (or to me more accurate Americauna), others are Buckeye (just a few) while others will be Dominiques, Orpingtons, and who knows what.

Mary, congrats on your apricots. Some varieties will grow here. I made a nice cedar trellis for a friend/customer and planted an apricot on it to be espallier. I'll have to swing by there and see how it has grown as it's been a couple years now.

Charleen and Charlie, I should've taken a pic of that discount chicken, eh? Just for my scrap book! Or for my ATP avatar! Hilarious!

Shoe (enjoying COOL weather here today, so far a high of only 59ยบ, overcast with a slight sprinkle. Good day to pick cowpeas, butterbeans, and check the okra patch.)

me too Charleen, we used to pick our baby chicks up at 1 day old and put them in a closed area with a light.

The first year we did chickens, we didn't have the area ready and we put them in the oven (door open) on warm Whistling Whistling

I have a funny chicken story -- about 6 years ago we still have a couple chickens running around the farm... mostly big white ones... anyways -- one disappeared, thought maybe she left on a cebatical or went to the neighbors... little did I know she had made a nest in the hay bales and was secretly laying eggs and sitting on them. Well about 20 days later... there appeared about 15 little yellow chicks -- they "were" so cute....

So mama would come out of the barn followed by a single file line of little yellow peeps, peeping away... well that perked up the ears of our Blue Heeler to go and investigate this row of quickly moving little yellow play things.

Well she found they moved even faster when she chased them... AND they moved in all directions making the chase a good one. They darted and dashed and dashed and darted. Then the DH stepped in and told the dog "NO"... she cowarded away.

Next day out she paraded, and there were 13 little peeps peeping... so I said to myself.. hmmmm wonder where the other 2 went... searched the lawn to no avail. Next day arrived home from work, 4 dead peeps in the yard, dog under bush looking guilty as ever, 9 little peeps following mama in a row!

Next day 2 more found in the yard, 7 following mama in a row, dog cowaring under the bush...... this scene went on for a couple more days... until the last little peep was running like a crazy little bird in circle all around the yard all by his little birdy self. I was convinced he was tramatized by seeing all his siblings "murdered" by the huge beast we call a pet!

Try as I might to catch him -- I was unsucessful -- and as you can guess. The next day.... no more little peep! Shrug!
