I got a telephone call from a guy in downtown Chattanooga Tennessee. He told me he got my name from a friend who got it off of Craigslist. So I got him to text me his telephone number and address. Then I went to the nearest hardware store for a 5 gallon bucket, roll of duct tape, and a piece of air filter. All the things you need to make a bee catch bucket. Drove to the guy's house went in the backyard and in half an hour I had the honeybees out of his apple tree and in my bucket. The bucket is now upside down over the top of an inner lid with a small hole in it and the bees are moving into their new house. Their new house has store bought Foundation and one frame with drawn out comb on it I'm super excited update and let you all know if they decided to stay in a week or two. I also took AC filter and closed up the bottom and top doors of my bee hives so they couldn't just leave on their own but would still get plenty of ventilation.

It will be another week or two before swarms start here. They always swarm when the wild blackberries bloom here. The

Mindy if the apples and dogwoods r blooming get ready. We have kind of an extended swarm season. We live 1000 ft above Chattanooga. So I get their season and ours.

Apparently I spoke too soon about it not being time for ours to swarm yet.
Our neighbor had a swarm today and yes the apple tree and dogwoods are blooming now.

I'm hoping our bees do like they did last year and just move into an empty hive. We had two swarms do that last year.

Yeah looks like a good year for bees. A mild winter followed by a temperate early spring. My friend from Sunday school's brother in law got 1 last week. The swarm referral I got was from a guy with no room in his hives.

Not enough hive room is a problem I look forward to.

I opened the new medium 8 frame hive. I found the queen working the old come I put in there. 1 old comb in a frame in the middle with New Foundation frames on both sides. Left a jar lid with a little bit of watered down honey. I put it inside the hive all the way in the back on the bottom to prevent robbing.

Looking very much like I should see eggs next week.

Sounds like you have new neighbor's in the bee yard.

Yeah I'm hoping it starts to look like a bunch of row housing.

A friend gave me a feeder. Most put sugar water in them. I don't care for the pH difference. So I use watered down honey.

The honey is better for them. Most use the sugar water because they don't want to give up the honey ether for their own use or for selling.

Calves and goat babies suffer on milk replacer as well. That's why I stick to the real thing.

Bees are doing great. Building out a lot of comb so I switched to sugar water. Yes I know but they are only making wax.

4/25 eyes stopped using sugar water still making comb and bringing in nectar and pollen.

5/1 caught queen in queen making cage.

5/3 no eggs in queen cage.

5/8 a few eggs in cage

5/10 drawing out comb on queen cage frame

5/11 eggs and brood on comb around queen maker. Gave to Roy for his queen less hive.

I have never used a smoker on these bees and only wore my bee gear once. These girls are very calm!

Swarm season hit big time in Louisiana. I caught six swarms and my friend John ,who is teaching me about bee keeping, has caught 38. He used a lot of them to strengthen his hives and gave me several. I have five new hives started with two swarms to the hive and sent my son-in-law home with a good strong hive for his start.

Ok I'm officially jealous Great Job. How many were cut outs?

Added another 8 frame medium and checkerboard the new frames with the existing. Bees are taking in sugar water and adding in new comb like crazy.

I gave a friend a frame of eggs and day old brood from this hive. It made a lot of queen cells. The hive is going like gangbusters! So I'm going to install a queen excluder and make this a 2 queen hive. If both have at least 2 supers of eggs and brood by mid July I'll separate into 2 individual hives.

Non were cut outs. I wound up catching all mine in swarm boxes. I caught three swarms in the same place. Most of the bees John caught was in swarm boxes, but several of his catchs were in peoples yards.
