Hi Sharlene, again me ,I checked but not finished your rose list in ATP, mine is yet to be completed but we do share quite a few. Some you have listed are available here from our major rose nurseries. Others may exist in private gardens from where if amenable one could get cuttings. Many will stay on the wish list and belong to the drool/sigh category... Green Grin! . But thanks to that I might want to reinvent the wheel and try to produce a unique rose with similar characteristics as those of this last list but with some added characteristic. Amazingly it may be easier to develop a new hybrid than go thru the red-tape and harass in trying to import in small quantities roses from Europe all the way down to Patagonia! :sigh:
I wonder if the absence of other types of roses in your list is just a matter of taste ( i.e Old garden roses or English roses) or caused by your location. How high is your elevation and how dry or wet are your summers? I expect cool evenings but very bright sunny days in your summer and quite a lot of snow covering your plants in winter but not continentally cold. My drool/sigh list contains heavily scented blues(lilacs) and striped roses and some of the apricot blends.
btw, my lake area was known as la Suiza argentina and Swiss settlers arrived here about a century ago. I don't know if any from Sankt Gallen specifically.
Keep up with your wonderful work. Thumbs up Thumbs up Arturo

Arturo, I am glad you like my modest collection of roses and also that you have some of them in your garden.

As far as ordering roses from Europe is concerned, I am not amazed about the difficulties you would have trying to import! Many countries have a lot of red tape when it comes to importing plants and rightly so! Diseases and pests can be introduced and cause havoc in our gardens.

Hybridizing new roses is, as you say quite easy and if you land up with something special you even get to name it yourself and share it with your rose buddies or if it is really a great rose, even have it registered.

You asked about my climate here in Switzerland. We live in the north eastern part of Switzerland, 600mASL and fall into Zone 6a. We used to have a snow cover the whole winter but it is no longer the norm. Temperatures in a normal winter are on average between 0 and 6C and summers between 25 and 30C with June/July being the months with the most rain.

Wishing you success with your roses and look forward to hearing about your hybridizing experiences.

Here another Stephen Rulo sibling. Yellow and scented, similar to one of the other SR OP's but this one is very full and lasted over a week on the bush without signs of deterioration before I cut it off. Keeping this one!

Thanks Porkpal! No I haven't named it - still has the code 'SRXOP 15/04'

So far I have only named 5 of my roses.

Time flies! Quite a few seedlings have been delegated to enrich my compost since the last post.

This is one that I kept and now, seeing the second bloom, I'm happy I did!
Seedling of Arthur Bell (pollinated by the bees) - first bloom 21 May
Thumb of 2016-07-11/sunnyvalley/1b55f6

Second bloom 11 June - higher petal count, more intense colour and good fragrance

Another little surprise is this cross of 'Fellowship' with 'Little Artist'. It hasn't opened completely yet but I just love it! It has definitely inherited it's daddy's stature.

HI Sharlene, you're definitely whetting my curiosity! I have left already in my fridge a bag of Roseraie de la Haÿe seeds to try to sow by mid August. It is such a suprise to find when something new comes to this world. Your AB seedling is just a delicacy. It belongs to group of the apricots that I never seem to have enough of them. I would definitely keep breeding along that line. Congrats Hurray! . Arturo

@hampartsum Thanks Arturo - some how missed you comments

I can now give the final status on my 2016 seedlings - I have only kept 20 seedlings, 12 of which are definite keepers and now reside in my trial beds. I am undecided about 2 because they had very untidy blooms but the plants are very healthy. Then there are 6 seedlings which haven't bloomed yet. Those 8 are still potted - the rest all landed on the compost!

Here a pic of the last seedling to bloom - a relatively small plant in relation to the size of the bloom but I like the colour and the form. And it is fragrant! I needed the yellow canister in the background because without it I couldn't get the right exposure to show the true colour.

Up until this year I have had to plant my 'keepers' in the garden but our farmer neighbour has agreed to let me use a strip of his land for trial beds. Still, I am going to have to start being even more selective about which seedlings I keep because inevitably, space will become a problem Sad To date 45 own roses and one bed with 24 Iris + a whole lot of pots Big Grin

Oh Neal - I missed this somehow - a belated Thank You!

This is an open pollinated seedling of Little Artist - I was so sure that it wasn't going to make it because it was so small but low and behold, a very healthy seedling and still small! Some of the other seedling which germinated around the same time are ten times bigger! I think I should call it 'Little Mini' Hilarious!
