I have enjoyed your articles and the emphasis on bees. I luv bees and I buy local raw honey (with and without the comb) at my Farmers Market. It is fantastic! What would we do without the bees?

I have garlic chives blooming, glad to know they are helping the bees

I still have Sedum, sempervivum and asters blooming. The bees are all over them. I notice they are feeding on the over ripe figs also.
We take the tiny honey bee for granite. What would we ever do without them.

I didn't realize the garlic chives were good for them... yeah one more I have!!

All of the onion family plants benefit the honey bees. Including the flowering onions.

We've got some wild asters blooming now, in spite of drought.You know, DH and I were eating outside of a burger place the other day and a couple bees were somehow attracted to my open purse. Now, what could possibly be in or on it to interest them, never did figure out. Nearby, some Mexican Heather was blooming in the landscape and that's where most of the bees were. With the falling temperatures now, bees seem to be more active. I love the raw regional honey...it's the best!

Bees are curious creatures and tend to check out anything that catches their eye. It would also depend on what color purse you were carrying. They might have thought it was a giant flower if it was a pretty color..

Bees go full blast at this time of the year collecting all the nectar and pollen they can before it's time to stay home.

The purse was black, so nothing. They seemed to want to go inside the purse...now that I think about it, I may have wiped off a little soda at some earlier time in the day and put the napkin back in my purse. I had to laugh while I was sitting there...DH was sitting there with a shake and they weren't interested in that at all! Good thing I'm used to being around bees!
