'Canadian Blues' is a semi-evergreen tetraploid introduced in 2000 by Elizabeth Salter. Jeff and Elizabeth Salter hybridize at Rollingwood Garden in Gainesville, Florida.

Canadian Blues is a mid-season bloomer with possible rebloom. It has earned the Honorable Mention: 2007 AHS award. No children are currently listed for this cultivar.

I received this a few years ago as a single fan bonus. It has not multiplied much and only had a couple blooms last year for the first time. I'm not sure of the zone equivalent but I'm in southern Ontario off the eastern shore of Lake Huron where our average winter snow cover is about 3-4 feet (except this past winter). It was in an area that was shaded a good portion of the day but I've taken down the tree and will see how it performs in more sun this year.

I think CANADIAN BLUES is a real cutie, and my blooms are a brighter, warmer pink than those shown in the first pictures. It's not really a terribly prolific bloomer for me, but I have it in a pot rather than in the ground which might affect things -- especially in our hot, dry climate. However, its blooms are quite distinctive and I do love seeing it each spring!

Sorry - this is a personal preference thing. I just flat out didn't like the bloom. The color appeared muddy in this climate. There was nothing wrong with its vigor here, however. This was sold off a few years ago.
It did show a few poly blooms here.

I've always enjoyed this one, especially for the heavy substance. It performs average for my zone, nothing spectacular, but enough to keep it in my garden. Definitely not the 30 bud count the AHS database lists. Difficult to use for hybridizing though, probably why there are no registered children

my report is similar, color varies slightly but can look a little muddy.
Not a strong grower here, maybe slightly below average. Skipped blooming one year.
No records on attempting to hybridize with it.
may do better in the south.
