This was a gift last year. Doing well out of doors. Winter rain and very little summer water and in bright shade. Flowered late winter through now.Branching inflo. Increasing nicely.

The description.. .. " Inflorescence racemose, simple, or with a pair of side branches" voids G. disticha. Good source for me to poke around in. I tip my hat to you.

Gasteria brachyphylla is mentioned as being related on plantzafrica

Gasteria disticha is closely related to G. brachyphylla which grows in the Klein Karoo and has a smooth leaf surface. Although both have leaves in opposite rows, G. disticha is immediately recognized by its rough leaf texture (almost like fine sandpaper).

It appears to only have one pair of side branches.

Look at Gasteria excelsa ..

The description of the leaves and flowering stem could fit.

G. excelsa grows in solitary rosettes. So thats out. I've been looking at G. brachyphylla. It looks right other than mine has more than a pair of side branches on the inflo. I need to go feel the leaves to see if there sandpapery. I tip my hat to you. Checked the feel of the leaves. The mature plant has smooth surface and the suckers are rough. I see that the form can be a rosette with age in this genus. Need to measure a few parts and have a look under magnification.

I've add photos of this in the wrong entry then.....but after really tucking in to the description it all fits G. brachyphylla as you and Janet suggest. I request that they be moved. Here are the latest photos from yesterday. Seems quite happy blooming and multiplying with abandon. I'll mark this one solved and thank you all. I tip my hat to you.
