dahtzu: Isn't that the truth ... and I have a few flower beds to prove it!

gingin: That photo could be one of my flower beds! Big Grin I swear it seems like I work for hours pulling, digging, tugging weeds ... and the next morning I go out and look and it's like they multiplied while I was sleeping, making me wonder if I just dreamed that I had worked so hard!

I usually just cut/pull their little nasty heads off as a "first aid" treatment if I can't get out to pull the roots.

Oh boy -howdy, that pic ain't nuttin', I can sure show you some weeds worse than that due to procrastination! Smiling

'Tis a good point though, Folks. Better to spend 3 minutes either pulling, hoeing, or tilling to zap those weeds than to put it off till "later, when I have more time". LATER means you'll spend 3 to 5 times the amount of energy, time, and vocabulary to get rid of the them.

Thumbs up, dahtzu and gingin.

I lived the Gardeners Proverb: One year seed equals seven years of weeds and I spent every weekend and most evenings after work working on the weeds. After 6 or 7 years of diligent weeding the little flower beds in our shrub beds; I only had flowers reseeding themselves Thumbs up ... but then we moved here and rented the house out 2½ years ago. My DIL drove to the house recently and found that the flower beds look like they need mowing Sad

So true, Faye, so true. And the Gardener's Proverb too. Oh dear, June.

The Bermuda grass can take over everything here if you don't stay on top of it. I remember my grandfather used to pull it out of his huge vegetable gardens every day. I think that's how he started his day in the garden ... pulling and cussin' the "Bmoody" grass. Grumbling
I garden for the pollinators.

I let my bed get awy from me whenever it gets hot--I really hate the heat of summer and I paid for it. Looks like a field and I'm positive I lost plants who just didn't want to bother competing with the out of control weeds.

My goal is to not let that happen again. I'll be chanting that when I'm out there dealing with the mess I let happen:LOL:

Thank you all. Seems that each time I go out to water or do any other choir, I end up pulling up grass and milkweed before I even began the choir that got me out in the first place. That's the only way I've stayed ahead of the "greens". Strange that any weed grows even in drought and heat while those treasured plants wither and die. What gives? Shrug!

>> I took a weed-whacker to one of my beds

I was trying to grow some perennials, and never figured out how to weed around them. I blinked, and all I had left were weeds.

I had to dig the soil out, screen it to remove the roots, then return the soil. Between tops and roots, a wheelbarrow-full. Maybe 2+ cubic feet, and it was a SMALL bed!

I saved a few plants and re-planted them, thinking "snapdragons" ... but no, just more weeds.

I keep thinking about renting a flamethrower, or whatever you call the propane weed-torches. They might not be any more efficient than a scuffle hoe or mattock, but it would make me FEEL better!

SongOfJoy, I want to learn some of your grandfathers favorite curse words. I think I wore mine out. They aren't working. The weeds just never wither up and die when I curse at them!
