Rather than ask a question that has been discussed before, I usually try to search for my topic in the existing threads. I'm not having much luck doing that on ATP though, so I must be doing something wrong. I think I know how to use the search feature. But sometimes, it will pull up one of those really long threads, and it takes you to the beginning of the thread, not to where the word appears. You have to read/skim the entire thread to find what you're looking for, and I usually give up at that point.

So, today, I'm trying to find information on fig trees, not fiddle leaf fig, but an actual fig tree that bears fruit. How would I do that? I can google it of course, but I'd like to understand how I can reference the great information on this site. Thanks in advance!

You might try limiting your search to the forum most likely to have the information you're looking for. To use your example of fig trees, try searching in the Vegetables and Fruit forum. And for the individual threads, you can change the number of items per page that appear on your screen to a large number (you do that on your Profile page under "site preferences"), then use the search page function (Control F, in case you aren't familiar with that) to locate a key word.
There may be a better way, but that's what I'd do.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
