Sunday Garden Forums sponsored by Project GREEN and the Iowa City Public Library begin on February 12, 2012 in Room A of the Library. The two hour forums begin at 2:00 PM and feature speakers on a variety of topics. Each Forum will feature an hour slide or power point presentation followed by refreshments and a lengthy opportunity for discussion directly with the presenter for the day.

Zora Ronan is a member of and a garden judge for the American Hemerocallis Society. In this forum, she will explore the many forms, patterns and colors in the daylily world. She will show you what to look for and how to select the very best daylilies for your garden.
Certificates for three of Zora’s special daylilies will be offered as door prizes at this forum.

A retired UI professor of geology, Dick will describe the joys and the difficulties he has experienced trying to increase biodiversity, preserve native communities, decrease erosion and reduce habitat loss on his property in Cedar County, IA.

Susan Appleget-Hurst: "From Plant to Plate: Growing and Using Herbs"
Herbs bring you to the perfect intersection of easy gardening and flavorful cooking. Find out how to start your own herb garden, whether it’s in a few flower pots or in a backyard plot. Learn how to raise, harvest and preserve your own freshly-snipped herbs. Susan will offer many great growing tips and recipes in this presentation.
Susan is the former editor and publisher of IowaGardener.com and The Iowa Gardener’s Guide. Later she was employed at the Meredith Corporation as the associate editor for Country Gardens, editor of Garden Shed, and senior associate editor for garden and outdoor living at Better Homes and Gardens.
Susan speaks at consumer garden shows and symposia every year and she has also served as a judge for the APLD Landscape Design Awards AHS Book awards.
Susan is now the owner of Applehurst in Winterset, IA. Her store is full of herbs, art, antiques, Iowa wines and more.

All Forums are held in Room A at the Iowa City Public Library and refreshments are served.
All Forums are free and open to the public. The programs will be televised live on the Library Cable Channel 10 and will be videotaped for checkout in the library’s non-fiction video collection. These forums qualify as education credits for Master Gardeners.

Makes me wish I were still an Iowa girl. Sad Or that our local libraries offered cool stuff like that. I'd especially love to sit in on the daylily one!

Maybe you could do an inter-library loan or something. They are recording them and they will be at the Iowa City library. Don't know how all that works, but may be a possibility.

They'd probably do an interlibrary loan in-state, but not so sure they'd ship it off to Illinois. Maybe if I assured them that I live "downstate" and have nothing whatsoever to do with all those Chicago politics. . . Rolling on the floor laughing
