I remember that my stepdad folded whole sheets of newspaper into a sort of triangle to put over small plants on cold nights. The edge was folded up a couple of inches so that dirt could be put in to anchor it. Do any of you remember those, or better yet, still know how to make them? They could be removed and stacked neatly in one tower, then reused unless they got too wet. Waxed freezer paper might be more durable.

I've not heard of this,Mary but it is very intriguing. Hope someone will weigh in that has had experience with this.

I was thinking they were probably similar to the "pirate hats" we made as kids... but I have no idea anymore how to do it. Thanks for posting that link, Farmerdill !!

Im no quitter.. I will garden in TN
My grandparents were from germany and as kids we would sit down at cleared workspace and make them out of brown paper bags and nespapers. They ended up kinda looking like a dutch girls hat. We would stape the folded cone. At the top. Grandma always used milk jugs with bottom cut on 3 side leaving a flap that she would place a piece of brick on. She would uncap them once a day for half hour each day unless it was real cold out
