I found a very healthy peony plant at the local box store.
But to my dismay it was labelled as Julia Rose for shade!
Now,--- I had obtained one last fall labelled Julia Rose,--- at end of season.
The shoots are quite divided like all the pictures of Julia Rose, so I think it is possible that the one from last fall is Julia Rose.
The healthy one from the box store has foliage more like lactifloras, but since it was healthy and only $10 CDN---I bought it knowing that it is not what the label says.

I am posting this for any new comers to the Peony Forum, so people are aware that this goes on !

Good advice, Caroline! It's always better to investigate a bit and know there is a chance you won't get what is on the tag. Sometimes it's fun to just take a chance and see what blooms! Hopefully yours will be a great buy!

I am always conned by healthy plants.
But it will be fun to see what it is!
Since it is healthy-it might flower next year---maybe!

I have two 'Red Charms' that were labeled as Itohs on the clearance rack. It's hard to know if a dishonest person swapped out the plants in the store to get an Itoh at the herbaceous price, or if a dishonest plant producer shipped the herbaceous peonies in as Itohs. I am not complaining. I got them marked down to less than $5 US.

$5 for Red Charm is amazing as well! That's one that I was never interested in until I saw it in person, then had to have it....

Whoa, I remember seeing a Julia Rose at a home improvement store here (orange building colour wink wink). It mas maybe two weeks ago.

I thought I was imagining things because it was very cheap. I bypassed it thinking it must be a mis-label. The leaves did not stand out as being different from the rest of the herbaceous peonies sold along with it.

If it happened here then it could be an error from their supplier?

My local Home Depot last year sold Red Charm as an itoh and this year is selling Pink Hawaiian Coral as an itoh. I think they are confusing "hybrid" with itoh or intersectional. Hard to imagine it is an error.
