OK .. it is WAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Varmits .. mice, chippers, squirrels, against the HUMANS !!
Took my car in for servicing today (routine), and, it cost me $300.00 !!
Why you ask?
WELL .. squirrels/mice had gotten up into the engine and cabin filters, they found 8 dead 'whatevers', and, many seeds skillfully placed for future us.
I park in a garage all the time, and I KNOW that the lil buggers are in it, but HOW do I go about doing a MASS ejection ??
We have avoided POISON as we have dogs, but, I do think it has come to that ..
DH will be sighting in his .22 no doubt ..
I am NOT happy about having to be an 'exterminatrix', but, $300. is simply ludicrous !

FIRST on the agenda, my garaged car will no longer be so .. good thing the cold has left us.

SECOND .. come on here and ask all you wise and extremely resourceful folks for suggestions .. The mechanic suggested dryer sheets, but didn't tell me where to put'em .. the 'cache' of dead bodies was around the engine ..

SO .. gimme yer best shot Blinking

Many advanced thank yous .. Country living is just such a trip Whistling

I have had that before. Just once. And we don't live in the country per se, but we are in the 'Burbs. Found a bunch of critter poo with seeds. Fortunately no damage to the engine. Cleaned it up sprayed with Clorox and they never came back.

I have heard that peppermint oil on cotton balls for the interior will keep them out. Our mechanic told us not to use poison as it will attract them. We had been feeding birds and mice fill the air filter on a vehicle with the seeds, so we quit feeding the birds.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

DH uses mothballs to prevent mice from nesting in his riding mower engine. I tried putting mothballs in my car, but I couldn't stand the smell.

That's terrible they are in your garage and causing trouble and money!!!
I don't know how to get them out, (whatever they are ) other than to pull everything out of the garage and then figure out how they are getting in. Years ago we had critters in our garage because I used to leave the doors open during the day if we were home. I had to quit doing that
Good luck with everything

Right now I have the battle with the Tree Roaches. They are running in from the rain! Wimps! What's 10" rain a day?

Is that like a florida palmetto bug ??

Those big roaches ( not sure IF they are roaches ...but sure look like roaches... ON steroids) used to FLY into my hair when I lived in Florida. The Florida humidity DID make my hair look like a great nesting place.... I hated those things.... Eeech...

YIKES!! Palmetto bugs .. be still my heart ..
When my parents were alive and 'snow birds' in Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach FL .. I would take my son and sometimes the DH down for a visit ..
One day my Mom and I entered their condo, and my son (then 7) yelled 'STOP' !!! Say what ??
There on the white floor was a HUGE Palmetto bug ..
Now .. he's intent on catching it, my Mom is near fainting, and, I am wishing I was in the middle of a blizzard with NO bugs .. here comes my Dad .. KERSPLAT he kills it ... gag me .. but .. ONE KERSPLAT was not enough .. this bugger was ready to rock n roll .. DS got a bowl from the cupboard and put it over the stunned bug .. the bowl MOVED ..
My Mom by this time is out of the condo, and, I am not far behind .. happy to leave the thing in the hands of my Dad and DS ..
Heard lots of banging (no guns) .. and, an announcement that the BUG was GONE ..
The whole deal was rather unsettling, and, I found myself avoiding walking under Palm trees !!

Great tale! I felt like I was there! ( I was there just not in that exact space! )
My sis was visiting us with her young son...when in the middle of the night we heard blood curdling shrieking. . . She felt something tickling her face and thought it was her toddler who had awakened ( he shared the guest bed with her )... She playfully slapped at his hand ....,only it wasn't....

One big advantage of living here it gets really cold during the winter is less bugs. I remember when I was I in Vietnam we had centipedes that were 2' wide and 4' long running on the tent walls. I doubt I could make up a list of the bugs we do not have here (there are many): fire ants, termites, etc. Gene
