Hi there, I've recently been giving this plant for my windowsill by my girlfriends mum. She said she had grown it from a shoot from a plant that she was given from Spain - one that she described as living in rocks there.

Am afraid I don't really have any more information about it to share.

Really hope someone can help.

Could you tell us from which part of Spain the plant was growing? Spain has a wide range of climates.

The stems look fleshy, are they 'succulent' like you would see on a Begonia?

I'm wondering if this is an escapee from gardens.

It certainly resembles that!

I'm curious though as the stems appear to be purple, where Chrysothemis pulchella has green stems and I can't find one otherwise. The description states the stems are light green in this book ..

I blew up a section of the photo, the stems might be partly green but appear to be covered in purple hairs. The stems look square!

It could be in the family Gesneriaceae ..

It looks like a Plectranthus of some sort. I see the square stems of the Lamiaceae family.
Plectranthus ciliatus is a good possibility (has the "purple hairs.") I'm too tired to investigate further at the moment!
