I know that some of my favorites were once a challenge. For example, Greenii and Hookeri were initially lost until I figured out the right conditions.

Wanted to post some pics of my Oro collection. Thanks to Tabby, Picklepuff, Lynn and Chris for getting me started on these. I'm actively looking to add more. Please be patient with me as I am still trying to verify names and spelling on these. If you have cause to challenge an ID, please do so. I want to make sure I have them right.

Very nice twit. They are such interesting plants. And so much confusion over the naming.

Your macrophylla appears to be the same as malacophylla, so we both have that one. It seems to be one of the tougher of the Orostachys. Mine has yet to bloom.

I had iwarenge which looks like your furosei. It either didn't make it thru last winter or I pulled it up by mistake when I cleaned up the bed. Confused

That's why it is easier to grow them in containers or raised beds. You just don't know where they are in the spring, they come out of dormancy so late, and there is no root ball to warn you.

Iwarenge and furusei look identical to me. Back to the confusion in this Genus. Confused

Thanks Lynn. I've seen this list, but my problem is how to make sure to fit the plant to the correct name.
There's a vendor selling an O. malacaphylla var iwarenge to even complicate things more.

Yes, I have seen that. The best we can do is try to match them up to an official name.

I could be wrong, but I think your:
Orostachys eburnifolia is the same as aggregata
Orostachys furusei is the same as iwarenge
Orostachys malacophylla is the correct spelling for your macrophylla
Your Orostachys fimbriata looks to be correct.

For now. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up

I can't begin to tell you how mixed up this genus is. Then there is this list from 'The Plant List', what they list as accepted species is in bold type.

I think the only way to "keep it straight" is to go with the "accepted" authority but keep in mind that it is always fluid. Whether or not a purchased plant is accurately labeled, well that is another matter and a bigger problem. Some species can be so similar that it takes an experienced botanist to tell them apart. I deal with the same problems with the lilium database. I like things to be black and white, if you know what I mean...

The easy thing with Orostachys is that there are not very many of them. And plenty of sites that give you information on what a given species is being sold as. Much easier than semps or lilies. Smiling
