Nice ones everyone.
Congratulations Dot. You may be hooked after this.

This is the first new seedling of mine for 2016. It's not showing the buds I'd like but the scape is nice and tall.

Gorgeous one Becky on (Drink the Light x GSTQ).

Love that first one Fred (Mary Lois Burkett x Wild Dreams)
x Cosmic Aftershock.

Donald, congratulations on your first ever bloom on a seedling. You did great!

Dot, very very nice pastel colors on those two, and lovely patterns. So feminine looking.

Leslie, I really like your UF with the twisty, curly look.

Very nice babies, everyone.

Very nice first seedlings Dot.

Lots of green Leslie, and a lot of plant in that pot.

This was a surprise yesterday, all the other seedling from
this cross have been totally different and smaller

Really have enjoyed looking at all the seedlings everyone has posted. I can only imagine the excitement of seeing that first bloom on a plant! I may have some seedlings later this year, but haven't seen any scapes.

Becky, I think your CCC3 -Laughing Clown x Instant Graffiti - seedling is awesome! Love the branching:)

A second seedling has bloomed. I think this might be a reasonable result from the cross which is recorded as 'Dizzy Damselfly X French Twist'. Just barely a hint of canoeing on a couple of the petals from the pod parent; color, some curls and larger bloom from the pollen parent. I'm assuming it wasn't contaminated by an insect here. Sorry about the hand, but something broke two segments. No wind today, so I'm guessing a bird landed on it. Needed to have had the camera with me when I looked at it earlier.

Down toward the bottom of the 2nd photo you can see where a second branch is in the process of aborting. Is that something that might go ahead and develop in future years?

This is an older seedling (the seed was collected in 2011) that I have shown before. It is a (* gasp *) yellow (tetraploid), and nothing much to look at, compared to all of the eyed, edged, and ruffled fancy faces on this thread. But, I like it very much. This FFO image was from around 7:30 am yesterday morning, after a 53 F night. The first bloom on that scape was 4"; the first bloom on a different scape today was 3.5". The plant appears to be rust resistant. (Knock on wood.) I love the flower form and opening traits. Lovey dubby The downside, however, is that there are a paltry 6 buds per scape, the scapes are shorter than I prefer, and I have yet to see this plant rebloom (though it should have the genetics for it). The bloom color also fades on the warmer days (though the bloom itself has good substance, and is still attractive at the end of the day, albeit a lighter shade of color).

Thumb of 2016-05-13/Polymerous/af6b95

I am trying to decide whether to pursue this seedling further or not. (I have other hybridizing goals and limited seedling space, but I do like nice lemon yellow daylilies, and this plant seems to have two traits that are important to me: rust resistance and good opening.) Limited seedling space or not, I am considering making a couple of crosses with it this summer, against things that will (hopefully) retain the rust resistance and bloom color and opening traits, while increasing the bud count and scape height (and maybe bringing in rebloom).
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

I agree with Leslie on the sibling post, Fred. It was very interesting to see the variation in color and form from the same cross. I like the throat and muted eye on that 2nd one.

WOW! What can I say .... everyone is getting some fantastic seedlings!!! I am blown away!

These are some more of mine. Not as fabulous as those posted by others, but it's always fun to see what happens when you cross one cultivar with another. So ....

Some may be additional blooms of the cross I may have already posted previously:

Had a new seedling bloom this morning. This one took 2 days to open fully. It has never bloomed before and is 2 years old with 1 fan. I thought it would probably look ugly because of the delay in opening, but it turned out beautiful. So many ruffles that I think it just took that long to open up completely.

CCC82 - Buddy Hudson x unknown:

And I have to post a photo of this blooming machine. (It re-bloomed for me last year, so hopefully that will be consistent this year!) And as you can see, it set a pod, so if the pod produces seeds, it will be pod fertile.

Vickie - Thank you! That blooming machine is my tallest seedling so far and the petals tend to curl as the day wears on. It blows the rest of my seedlings away with the number of blooms. Some good genes in that one!

Becky, I love the CCC01! The cascade/crispate form of UFO's really appeals to me, and you know I love reds and purples! I'd say it's a keeper! Nice job with that one. Do you have additional specs on it? (Size, scape height, bud count...)?

Cindy and DND - Thank you! I am so easily thrilled by any daylilies that bloom in my garden. All the fancy faces that hybridizers are creating these days make mine look like plain jane, but I am tickled when I get seedlings that look pretty interesting and are beautiful in their own right.

DND - I posted the stats on CCC01 here: http://garden.org/thread/view_...

I am absolutely drawn to the fancy faces, but from a distance the solid or nearly solid colored daylily blooms seem to stand out the most. And I, too, am a big fan of red blooms. Maybe that is why I like that one so much! Thumbs up
