Mike ...

Why don't you post photos of YOUR garden even tho' your roses are between flushes ?

I think I'd find that more interesting ... I'm all ears!

In the first shot the dog seems to be asking, "What is going on here?" Now it is very clear that Sue had a beautiful plan. I have no vision for this sort of thing and am very impressed - I hope the dog is too.

Sue, 'then' and 'now' pics are always so interesting. It always amazes me how a garden changes over the years. Your choice of plants has turned that into a heavenly spot! And if you hadn't mentioned the clay pot, I wouldn't have given it a second thought - it definitely doesn't distract that beautiful setting!!!

I would so love to sit there with a glass of wine or a good craft beer and just take it all in! I haven't smelled GT yet, is it fragrant? Looks like one would be enveloped in fragrance there!

The Breck's sale is on right now. Five bare-root roses for $19.99: 1 red, 1 pink, 1 purple, 1 yellow, and 1 orange -- all chosen by Breck's.

http://www.brecks.com/product/...

You can also get $25 off a purchase of $50 by signing up with your e-mail address, so I did that and ordered the rose collection, a hardy double geranium collection (3 geraniums), and a dwarf canna collection (10 cannas; 2 each of 5 varieties). With postage, the whole thing came to only $47.92.

Cindi has reported that her Breck's roses did well last year.

And Cindi is reporting that the roses they are sending out this year are equally robust.
For my second order this season, I ordered the double clematis collection for 19.99 and a daylily to bring my total to 50 so I could get 25 off...total with shipping came to 47 also. So I'm getting 5 roses, 4 new clematis and a daylily for $47!!! Heck of a deal.
I'll pot the roses and grow them in a protected area for a while.
Spring Hill had a similar offer, and I received Sunshine Daydream, Intrigue, Double Delight, Chicago Peace, and Falling in Love. The Brecks shipments people are reporting are much newer roses. I won't spoil the surprise.... Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

My Hortico roses just arrived. I actually got the 4 I ordered. Shipping was twice what the website said it would be. Not happy about that surprise. What can I do about the two on the left? They do not look good to me at all. They are Nahema and Auguste Renoir. The other 2 are Fishermans Friend and Morning Mist, both Austins.

BLACK FINGER OF DEATH!! Seen it before on cold storage roses!

Cindi, the first thing I would do is send these photos to the supplier!!! I am not familiar with Hortico and what sort of quality they usually supply but I think the two on the left are definitely NOT up to standard. You might be lucky and after cutting all the black stems away, they might still be ok. BUT if I was you, I would ask for replacements!

Also, when you cut back those two, remember to disinfect your clippers so that you don't infect any of you other roses.

Just my opinion but I would be very disappointed especially when as you say the shipping was more that you expected and then you get roses which are not up to scratch!

They don't look good at all. Most of my Hortico roses were also disappointing, and the shipping cost was higher than the amount stated on the website, but they at least lowered the price of the roses to compensate. You should contact Hortico and let them know that two of the roses look bad, of course, but I'm not sure whether that will do any good. Hortico has always offered terrible customer service in the past. We can ony hope that it has improved now that the younger generation has taken over the business.

oooh nooooo!
I put all four roses in a tub of water to soak. Is this a fungus? One of them has very little green cane, maybe an inch.
I have no hope of getting replacements from them this year, and I really don't think I want anything from them (other than a refund!)
I will send an email with a photo, and I'll cut them back and pot them individually. I'll try a powerful fungicide and maybe a disinfectant?
Those two roses actually look like they had been stored in a box for more than a year.

This is why I grow roses and other blooming plants. Threw these in a vase real quick to bring to my daughter and family, helping them move this weekend. And yes, it's raining, kinda late for us Californians but we'll take it!!

Thank for sharing Sue !! Beautiful Gazebo & Roses !!! Can't wait to see my new Summer Nights & Sugar Plum blooms...My two David Austin (Queen of Sweden and The Alnwick) are kind of tiny so I don't know how they are going to perform... My Miss All American Beauty, Queen Elizabeth, Hot Cocoa, Mr Lincoln, Dick Clark, Chicago Peace and Coral NOID have been blooming but with the rains some of the blooms do not look pretty...and blackspots on some of them added insult to injury...
Hopefully the Sunny day will stay here...
Have a wonderful MOTHER'S DAY everyone !
