I did not notice any fragrance. If your part of Maryland is close enough to southeaset Pennsylvania for a visit, I would encourage you to tour the Scott Arboretum, which is located on the Swarthmore College campus in Swarthmore, PA, a suburb on the west side of Philadelphia. Large collections of lilacs, tree peonies and magnolias are in bloom now. It is a beautiful campus, and visitors are free to wander around or take formal tours.
