Just loaded a photo to the data base and one to the Front Porch and had no problems despite the fact my computer is on 'life support'. Whistling

For me it comes and goes. Most of them time, I have no problem. But I was uploading a picture the other day and it got stuck at 25%. I even copied all the text I had already put in my post just in case I lost it, but then the picture started uploading again. Same with viewing others' photos. I'll be going along fine and then one just gets stuck. I'll try closing it out and opening it up again and sometimes it's still stuck, and sometimes it opens.

I haven't tried loading one of my own photos anywhere... it's been happening when I try to expand a photo in a post.

The ones I've load to the site from my PC (new camera) or my phone have been slow to load, but I figured that as they were smaller, the resizing that goes on on this end takes a little longer. The ones you click on in the forums shouldn't be doing that. At first I thought the same was going on with them, but now I'm at a loss. Confused

I've gone through the site configuration and code very carefully these past 24 hours. I can't find anything specific that would cause slow loading, but I did make some changes to tidy things up.

I'd be curious to know if the problem is persisting today.

Mixed results for me today. Sometimes the first pic in a series will load right away, but by the time I get to the third one, its just no-go. I just give up anymore.

Carol, is it just in the forums that this is happening?

How about the photos on this page?:

I just made a change. @ctcarol and @CarolHB (and anyone else who was previously affected by this) please go load some forum threads and see if the problem is still happening.

As CarolHB said, it's hit and miss. I got one that didn't open at all when I tried to enlarge it , and a couple that enlarged in sections slowly.

I just clicked through a bunch of photos in the butterfly and birds threads and they all loaded nearly instantaneously. But I'll be sure to let you know if it happens again!

Carol, it looks like you are using IE. Do you have Chrome or Firefox? I'd be curious to know if the same thing happens to you using one of those two browsers.

Much better for me at Pacific Coast Gardening forum: Chat thread. Only one very short hang-up out of about 24 pics, using Thunderbird. Just went through http://garden.org/plants/ quickly with no probs. Thank You! for all you do and are doing.

Right now I am using my iPad mini instead of my full Mac. I have been having trouble with slow opening photos as well, on both the iPad mini and my Mac. My Mac is older, running older OS. But this iPad is only a few months old and usually really fast...great for watching 360 degree videos on YouTube and other intensive stuff.

I have TimeWarner cable internet, and usually have no problems. I started having issues with slow opening photos sometime after the merge.

I just went to the new database photos, but went back many pages to Oct. of last year, to this post...
http://garden.org/thread/view_...
Thinking this way I was opening a photo uploaded prior to the merge with NG.

When I opened the photo, in my head I counted 12 seconds with the
1-1000 -2-1000-3-1000 method.

Shrug!

Edited to say --- I meant the Plant ID forum - not the New database photos….
